Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Williams.
Hi Angela, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I grew up loving everything about cheerleading and tumbling. I cheered from middle school and throughout my college years. I always knew I wanted to start a tumbling business but didn’t need to figure out how. Once I had my daughter, my passion for cheer and tumbling grew. I started Flipping Out, LLC, out of my home in 2022. My daughter needed private tumbling sessions (age 9) while involved in All-Star cheerleading, so I decided to train her. While training her, I decided to take on other children even though I was still home. Eventually, after a few months, I had almost 30 children join Flipping Out. As the number of children grew, my husband and I knew it was time for us to look for a building instead of me still coaching in our home. On December 2, 2023, we moved into a building for our tumbling students. We moved into the building with only 31 students, but now we have over 90 students.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road at all. In June of 2023, we were ready to rent out a building, but the owner of the building had a few hiccups. The building was sold, and I didn’t think we would ever be able to move in. We moved in at the beginning of August, but we had some electrical problems and had to move out of the building. Finally, the new build-out for Flipping Out was completed after a very rigorous lease and attorney process. We settled on December 1, 2023, as the move-in date. I’ve had many doubts and sometimes didn’t think this was possible. I’ve had many people wonder if I would ever make this work. I am happy to say that Flipping Out is thriving more than ever.

We specialize in private and group tumbling. I have a Doctorate in Business; therefore, I am very qualified to run a business successfully. There are many things to set Flipping Out apart from our competitors:
- Flipping Out allows a maximum of 10 kids in each class.
- Flipping Out allows the class time of 70 minutes.
- Flipping Out provides two coaches in each class.
- Flipping Out provides hands-on spotting for each child learning a new skill.
- Flipping Out gives 1000% to each child 1000% of the time.
- Flipping Out provides edited videos for parents to track progression.
The Flipping Out culture is fantastic! The kids and parents are all so fun and fabulous to be around. We are a Christ-centered business, and we are very unapologetic about it. We pray after every class and listen to Christian music while the kids participate in their privates and classes.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love that Memphis is a little big town. Memphis is a large city, but it still feels like a small town. The most minor thing that I dislike about Memphis is the crime.
