Check Out Lyndzy Gordon’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lyndzy Gordon.

Hi Lyndzy, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I am bursting at the seams with imagination and creativity, which reflects in everything I do from my personal endeavors to my career. I love expressing myself through fashion, art, and cosplay.

I’ll start with Cause-Play Memphis, a charity organization I formed with fellow local cosplayers (costumers). Working together with local hospitals and other non-profits, our volunteers visit children who are sick, with disabilities, or facing adversities. Our goal is to bring smiles and enjoyment by creating a magical world of make-believe when we arrive dressed as their favorite characters from movies, cartoons, and comic books!

Another important part of my story is Bunni Designs, my fashion line! As you already know I am a huge dork 😛 who not only enjoys dressing up as my favorite cartoon character, but I also have a fashion line inspired by them. I started designing clothing inspired by my favorite fandoms and pop culture back in 2015.

These styles weren’t the easiest to find at the time, especially for plus-size folks like myself so I teamed up with another creator and together we brought to life my clothing designs, thus bringing to life Bunni Designs.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Not all, but what fun is a road that’s always smooth? Especially for someone like me who enjoys going off-road! (That was so cheesy sorry haha). Some of the struggles have been a pain, but many of them have helped me grow as a person and business owner.

I had a lot of difficulties starting Cause-Play Memphis. There weren’t a ton of cosplayers in Memphis back in 2012 and many of them I tried to recruit as volunteers didn’t have the time, social skills, or passion to devote to the organization. I also really needed help getting it started and couldn’t do it alone.

I tried a handful of times but didn’t get things off the ground until I met my current board members, who have been amazing. Cause-Play wouldn’t exist without all of the time and dedication they’ve put into it.

The struggles with Bunni Designs are daily. Especially right now with the pandemic… from increases in the cost of production, processing fees, shipping, and lower sales 2021+2022 so far has been rough. I’m still hanging in there though since I do this because I am passionate about it and not so much for the profit.

Some months I make enough to pay my phone bill, which is nice, but I can’t rely on it for consistent income.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I suppose I’m known for a few different things. There’s my charity Cause-Play Memphis, my apparel line Bunni Designs, and my cosplays. I go by the handle Blue Bunni Cosplay, I didn’t realize it until recently, but apparently, I am also known for my Sailor Moon-themed Miata.

I’m most proud of Cause-Play Memphis. I’ll do anything I can to bring more positivity to the world, especially if it can make kids going through such difficult times smile.

I think what sets me apart from most is that I don’t hold back. I’ve embraced my weirdness, flaws, and all of the unique things about myself. I love being different and expressing myself through colorful clothing, hair, accessories ~ and even my car!

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
My favorite things about Memphis are the children’s hospitals.

We have St. Jude, Lebonhuer, Target House, etc. I also really love Shelby Farms, it’s an outdoor oasis in the middle of the city. I love hiking the Wolf River trails!

What I like the *least* about Memphis would have to be the traffic. We have a lot of reckless and uninsured drivers out on the street and it makes me nervous every time drive in this city.
