Today we’d like to introduce you to Haleigh Collins.
Haleigh, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Hi, my name is Haleigh Collins, and I started CakeditbyHalo in January 2023.
It all began one day while I was scrolling on Instagram and came across videos of people decorating cakes. I found them so satisfying to watch—and thought to myself, I can do that!
My very first cake was for my daughter’s 4th birthday. It was a two-tier cake, and I was so excited and proud of how it turned out! Not long after, I made my son’s birthday cake, and the feedback I received was amazing. People encouraged me to get business cards and start taking orders. Even though I wasn’t fully confident yet, I kept practicing and improving.
Looking back, I realize that cake decorating has actually been in my life all along. My mom was a cake decorator when I was growing up—she would always make cakes for our family. To be honest, I never really paid much attention to her work back then. She eventually stopped decorating cakes about two years before I started. Now, I find myself still shocked that I never noticed how creative she was, but I truly believe God was planting a seed in me even when I didn’t realize it.
After taking a short break, I started baking again in November 2023. I received two cake orders from my church, and when I finished those, I knew that God had given me a special gift. From there, I continued practicing and perfecting my recipes—especially focusing on creating cakes that taste just as good as they look. Once I found the perfect recipe, I ran with it!
In November 2024, I got my third order—my very first heart cake—and I nailed it! That customer came back for a smaller version, which became my first mini cake. My mini cakes are 4 inches and include two cupcakes—perfect for small events or couples. These mini cakes really took off, and I’ve sold 100 in just six months!
Since then, I’ve expanded my menu, built amazing relationships with new and returning customers, and truly stepped into what God has called me to do. I believe this is just the beginning, and there’s so much more to come!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It hasn’t been an easy journey. One of my biggest challenges has been gaining customers and learning to dedicate more time to growing my business. As an introverted person, I’ve had moments where imposter syndrome tried to hold me back. On top of that, being a mom of two made it difficult to balance my time in the beginning. I often stayed up late into the night perfecting my cakes and finding ways to put myself out there—like partnering with local restaurants and small businesses in the Memphis area to reach more customers and share my work with the community.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
At Cakedit Bakery & Catering, we love bringing sweet ideas to life! We offer a variety of custom cakes for any occasion—big or small—and we always use fresh, high-quality ingredients to make sure every bite is worth it.
We’ve become known for our mini cake, bento boxes, and mini cake tins, which are perfect for celebrating not just the big milestones, but the little moments too. Whether it’s a birthday, business event, or family gathering, we take pride in creating cakes that make people smile.
What makes us most proud is our dedication to quality and variety. We offer cakes in all sizes—serving as few as 3–6 people or as many as 100–200 guests. No matter the size of the celebration, our goal is to make each order special and full of love.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
When I think about the role luck has played in my life and business, I honestly don’t see it as luck — I see it as God’s timing and divine favor. There have been moments that some might call “good luck,” like scrolling through Instagram that one day and finding those cake-decorating videos, or getting my first few orders just when I was doubting myself. But to me, those weren’t coincidences — they were reminders that I’m walking in my purpose.
Of course, there have been times that felt like “bad luck,” too — cakes that didn’t turn out how I wanted, slow seasons, and moments where I questioned if I should keep going. But even those experiences taught me patience, humility, and how to grow. They helped me improve my recipes, sharpen my skills, and build confidence.
So in the end, I don’t really believe my journey has been about luck at all. It’s been about faith, perseverance, and trusting God’s plan — even when things didn’t seem to make sense. Every setback became a setup for something greater, and every “lucky break” was really just His grace guiding me right where I needed to be.
