Conversations with Chelsey Barnes

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chelsey Barnes.

Hi Chelsey, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I started singing at a very young age in my grandparent’s church. My sister and I got our start when the Facebook Live feature became accessible.

We started to get millions of views that allowed us to go viral on social media platforms such as: “Twitter, Instagram, The Shade Room, and many more nationally known platforms. We were also able to make our first televised appearance on “The Word Network” with Dr. Jamal Bryant. After we built that fan base via social media we got another opportunity that afforded us to show our independence.

I was a top 5 contestant on BET’S #1 gospel hit show, Sunday Best. Following this experience that made me a household name, I was able to tour here in the United States and Overseas along with another great artist. I am still active and planning to release a single along with my sister soon.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
This journey is not for the weak. My experience has been full of highs and lows. Being a singer/artist has its peaks and valleys. Some days you can be fully booked and others you can have no engagements.

Being in the industry, you want to be as busy as possible. Looking on the bright side, each opportunity has been a learning experience that has allowed me to grow.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a gospel artist (singer/songwriter). I also work part-time as a substitute teacher in my local area. I’m most proud of my professional career as a gospel artist.

It has afforded me opportunities that have allowed me to travel and see the world. It had also allowed me to be an inspiration to millions of people who are both younger and older than I am. It assures me I’m doing the right thing. I have also met a lot of famous people, most of who have been very influential in my life.

I believe what sets me apart from others is my ability to keep going through the good and bad times. My faith is strong because of my beliefs. When you change your perspective and look at things in a positive light I believe, according to your faith that anything is possible with God.

What would you say has been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson I’ve learned along this journey is to have confidence in yourself and your gift.

I’ve also learned that seeking validation from others can be a hindrance. Believing in your own self is the best investment you can make.
