Conversations with Immanuel Morris

Today we’d like to introduce you to Immanuel Morris.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
There is a beautiful intersection between Mental Health and faith and sometimes we need a tour guide to help walk that intersection.
Immanuel Morris is a dynamic leader, thought leader, industry pace setter, and advocate for mental wellness, faith integration, and community empowerment. He’s a ten-year Memphian by way of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, Immanuel earned his Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies—Psychology, Social Work, and Sociology—from Arkansas State University in 2016.For nearly a decade, Immanuel has served in both outpatient and inpatient behavioral health settings, leading initiatives that strengthen systems of care and expand access to mental health resources. He currently serves as the Director of Quality and Risk Management at an inpatient behavioral health clinic for adolescent males, where he oversees clinical excellence, organizational compliance, and innovative approaches to holistic care.
Beyond his professional role, Immanuel is deeply involved in civic, faith-based, and nonprofit leadership—fostering growth, development, and collaboration across diverse communities. Ordained into ministry in 2013, he now serves as Christian Education Pastor at New Growth in Christ Christian Center, where he also leads Youth and Young Adult Ministries. His work bridges the vital intersection of mental wellness and faith, particularly within BIPOC communities and among emerging leaders. Immanuel is also the founder and voice behind The S.P.A.C.E., a digital platform dedicated to spreading mental health awareness and practical wellness tools across social media (@share.in.the.space).
Known affectionately by many as “The Bishop of Mental Health,” and “Mr. Therapeutic” Immanuel continues to inspire others through authenticity, compassion, and a mission to cultivate healing spaces wherever he goes. He and his wife, Jackie, reside in Memphis with their energetic goldendoodle, Zion.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
One reason, I’m so familiar with the intersection of Mental Health and Faith is because I have had to walk it with The Holy Spirit. Dealing with generalized anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorder in my childhood rooted in perfectionism and self-righteousness. Then, while in Undergrad, I had to conquer clinical depression. Following, I had to conquer the unique phenomenon of being the unicorn in so many professional spaces, i.e. young and a Black man. I was simultaneously praised and disrespected, platformed just to be dissected, and pressed for my expertise without regard for own well-being. This served me, no less, as an opportunity to exercise resilience, flexibility, and restraint which all resulted in my growth in polishing. I’m currently now a cornerstone for both sides of my family after losing my mother unexpectedly in December of 2023 and my father surviving a stroke January 2025. All while juggling a high demand professional career and other community responsibilities. I had an amazing tour guide through these tumultuous times no less, and I successfully walked my own intersection in Mental Health and Faith. Now, I help others do the same through psychoeducation, preaching, and resource brokering.
One of my other passions and pursuits is fashion and modeling (among a plethora of passions and pursuits). The “space” for Big and Tall men in the fashion industry is incredibly narrow (ironically). I have worked to break barriers and stereotypes in the local fashion seen and in online fashion spaces. Recently, more progressive strides have been made in the industry for Big and Tall models and there is even a name for this lane; “Brawn modeling.” I have earned a reputation as being a trusted voice for Big and Tall clothing reviews and styling which has resulted in some brands seeking to collaborate with me. No less, I have had multiple instances of (major) brands watching my work and sometimes near immediately copying my work – sometimes word for word! Same with my Mental Health content on The S.P.A.C.E. No less, I continue to produce content because I understand, as all special creators should, one can mimic the look, but they will never have the recipe.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My entire career has been around serving youth, particularly at-risk youth and young adults. In the beginning of my career, I was known as “Mr. Therapeutic” and later “The Rapport King” for my unique ability to quickly build rapport with Clients. I was able to swiftly rise through organizations into senior leadership positions (my record is two weeks) while developing other leaders. Currently, as the Director of Quality and Risk Management at an inpatient facility in Arkansas, I’m responsible for (in brief) regulatory State/Federal compliance and ensuring quality care for all our Residents using key performance indicators (KPIs) – IT IS NOT FOR THE WEAK! A wise woman told me that God is preparing me for what is next. At least, once a week, I ask myself, what could He POSSIBLY be preparing me for with the skills I exercise and grow here *insert hysterical laughter* nonetheless, what I do and how I grow is invaluable.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
For me, luck translates in my vocabulary as “favor.” and for me favor is the difference maker. I am not foolish, therefore, this is no way that I could contribute my success, wins, and growth solely to my skillset when I know that it was God’s favor working on my behalf. I have encountered some of the best people on the planet, experienced privileged opportunities, and excelled in every space because favor has granted me uncanny access to rooms that exceed what my own efforts could ever do. For this, I am exceedingly grateful!
