Daily Inspiration: Meet Daniel Dahmer

Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniel Dahmer.

Hi Daniel, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My love for the art of rap started when I first heard it easy as a child. His voice was so captivating that I knew it was what I wanted to do if I could.

I used to rap his lyrics in the mirror as a kid and basically re-write his lyrics with my own twist. As I got a little older, I started to write my own lyrics and eventually got a karaoke machine where I got practice recording my own songs.

I have been thru multiple name changes until I fully developed the style that was 100% authentic to me without being forced.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s been far from a smooth road to get to where I am today.

It has been a lot of hard work from putting my flyers on cars to long nights staying awake shooting/editing my music videos and preparing album releases; I do everything pretty much by myself with the help of very few so it can be overwhelming at times but I try not to let that kill the passion I have for the art.

I have done shows with hundreds of people and I have done shows with almost nobody in the crowd but we continue to move forward regardless. Sometimes it’s a struggle to get people to pay attention anymore because the game is so over-saturated with a bunch of artists repeating what other artists are doing so you just have to stay innovative.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I make rap music the way I want to make it and I have fun doing it (i.e. create what I feel in the moment and like to think of it as something like a film on wax). I guess you can call my style adult swim rap because a lot of it is over the top.

What really sets me apart is my image and sound because I have never been afraid to go against the grain and be different (for instance, I wore a Fannypack while rapping for the longest time because most people into rap wouldn’t think those are cool and it set me apart now more rappers wear them so I shaved the top of my head bald to stand out).

One thing I do is be myself authentically and not follow what the trends are I guess you would have to hear what I do to understand even then some people don’t get it because I do something different than most listeners are used to hearing. Also, by the way, Fannypack is what my fans know me for and it’s a part of my lure now.

Something I’m very proud of is the fact I have had the opportunity to do songs with a few different members of my favorite rap group Three 6 Mafia and Kool Keith!!!

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
The biggest risk is not taking any risk at all!!! I think we should all take risks.

If you don’t take risks then you never know what kind of reward was waiting for you. We all take risks every day leaving our homes so why not take that risk doing something you love doing!!!

My whole music career has been a risk, LOL.
