Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaydon Stevenson.
Hi Jaydon , so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My initiative to begin making clothes was a lot of lingering motivation I had within me that I felt the need to express. Throughout my life I’ve always had the drive within me to be sucessfull in whatever I put my mind to and to reach my goals. From my younger days I remember cutting grass to save up my money to buy new sneakers. In middle school I sold candy in order to do some of the things I wanted like go to the movies, buy video games etc. Then in high school a full circle moment occurred during the rise of the sneaker reselling market as I began to attack that. People began to take notice of who I was and the things they did and they began to question me, and as I began to make impact in these individuals lives I had a thought that if I express this mindset on clothes I can make a much larger impact on more people. This mindset is what got me to where I am today, firstly being a embodiment of what it means to Axcel (to accelerate towards your dreams you have to excel in each step it takes to get there) and recently I incorporated “Beyond” into the name representing the endless possibilities you can bring to reality when you Axcel. Secondly I continue to incorporate different lessons into each piece I make whether it be in bold words like my first “Push past the Stars” or my more recent designs in denim subtly and elegantly telling you a story. What got me to where I am today is that I have infinite messages that need to be heard and seen by the world.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
There are no negatives or positives, only your personal interpretation of events that occur decide that. It has not been a smooth road but that’s not what I signed up for. something attained easily most likely will not last if it is even worth having. I’ve faced all the struggles you can imagine for a business owner let alone in the fashion industry, but in these challenges that is where your true character is shown. It’s easy to hide yourself in the light of day but at night are you going to shine or fade into the darkness?
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
What I do is share motivational messages in the artistic expression of fashion. Something I thought even in the beginning is a high quality message means nothing if it is in the garbage so I like to pair these high quality messages on high quality garments. Since my beginnings in 2021 I’ve made over 100 pieces. I started with T-shirts to hoodies-to hats- to bags- to shorts- to jackets- to sweatpants- to now jeans, belts, and jewelry. I don’t like to say I specialize in one thing because that would be putting myself in a box and as you can see in the chronology of the pieces I’ve made I continue to challenge myself to do different things. Beginning in this I had no knowledge about the creation of garments, little experience in graphic design just a message that I knew I had to express no matter what. I continue to challenge myself to make pieces in categories I haven’t touched and I dislike making the same thing over and over again. But the pieces I am most known for is my gravity disbelief collection which has strong graphic appeal and the message “You still believe in gravity” representing the fact that sometimes the only thing preventing ourselves from going up is ourself and the thought that something is holding us back. Another popular collection of mine is the Superstellar collection with the message “Don’t let your dreams stay dreams”. The piece I am most proud of is my next one I always aim for my next to be my best. What sets me apart is I am truly passionate and committed to expressing my message to enable and motive all to Axcel Beyond.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up I’ve always had a drive within me to be great in everything I did. My biggest passion was playing basketball which helped shape me into who I am as well as instilling discipline and many other life lessons. I grew up in a military family so I’ve become accustomed to adapting to different environments and basketball served as a passport for me that helped me meet many lifelong friends regardless of the distance after I moved. I think the biggest thing I developed growing up was my self-belief. As I mentioned I moved around a lot so there were times I moved and didn’t have any friends so this forced me to be confident within myself and somewhat independent finding joy and motivation within me rather than having people around me for this feeling. In relation to fashion I’ve always had a passion throughout my life I’ve spent a considerable amount of money on these big name brands but nowadays my motivation is to recoup that and bring that same type of attention to my brand. Personality wise I’ve always been somewhat quiet, not shy but quiet and observant, not afraid to try new things and experience life to the fullest.
