Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Eileen Rector.
Hi Megan, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
By the time I was in high school, I had been homeschooled for a few years and had branched out as far as friends and acquaintances went. There was a friend of mine who was a wedding photographer by the name of Malik Sharp.
In the early years of his career, he asked me to shoot with him so he could build his portfolio, and although I had never modeled before, I knew I was drawn to the idea of it. Because I was available during regular school hours, this was a perfect setup for the start of my creative career.
Once Malik published the photos on social media, many local photographers alike started to reach out in hopes of collaborating. Soon enough, I was picked up by a local Boutique, which then lead me to a position as the lead model for an international e-commerce store.
During my four years there I learned a lot of the basics of running an online fashion empire & what it took to be a creative multitasker. That’s what I like to refer to myself as, a creative multitasker; as much as I enjoy modeling, I also enjoy designing, styling, making art, and many more of the behind-the-scenes aspects of the creative world.
Not long later, a partner and I decided to open our own online women’s clothing store named Peachy Fiend. It was an amazing experience, getting to do what you love as work. Although we gave it a good run, this was mid-COVID, and it was simply not the right environment for a freshly faced clothing store. In the end, we traded the experience, for well, experience.
My plans since then have been in the making. I’ve taken time to reflect on everything that has brought me to this point in life and where I want to go from here.
My modeling ambitions are multi-directional, and I also plan to continue with a new brand idea. One built consciously, one surrounded around the basis of bringing more good into the world. I plan to bring words and actions together.
You‘ll just have to stay tuned to find out how.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
One thing I would say that could have potentially held me back would be caring too much about what others think.
This ranges from feeling like you must stay in the box society puts you in, to feeling not good enough for society. There were always doubts that came along the way, and still do, however, I’ve chosen to believe that what I have to bring to the table is more than enough.
I understand that life is a journey, it moves in waves and whatever is meant to be will be. That being said, knowing what you want, working for it, and not letting outside voices deter you from making it happen is key.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m most known for having a sense of style & a sense of how to live life. Even before my modeling career started, I was the one you went to for outfit or hair or makeup advice.
But especially the outfit. I loved exploring the different realms of fashion and what works best for different kinds of people. It always brought me joy to see others feel their best.
I stand by feeling your best on the inside & the outside which is why I’m an enthusiast for a variety of art, a balanced plant-based diet, clothing you can feel good in & a life filled with creativity & exploration.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Being open-minded while still adhering to the goals you set for yourself allows you to keep the door open for the unimaginable. Know your worth, know what you want & and go for it, but stay humble & educated.
