Daily Inspiration: Meet Mikkel Ware

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mikkel Ware.

Hi Mikkel, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am a 30 year old native of the Greater City of Memphis. My parents and family have always encouraged my creativity and using my voice so the story of how I got started is a very simple one. I’ve always been one to make hand-crafted gifts for Christmas, birthdays or housewarmings and I really wanted to expand my creativity.

So I started researching different craft ideas. I found acrylic pouring on one of my many internet searches and became intrigued by it. I found it to be not only a fun and interesting experiment, but the end results were beautiful. It became a wonderful way to expand my creativity.

The more I spent researching and practicing, I came to realize how each canvas would come out either slightly different or completely different altogether. It was like I could start with an idea of what I wanted to see and as soon as the paint was on the canvas it had its own plan.

I came to learn that the paint had its own reaction and would create its own design. What you start with may not be the exact end result. A lot of faith, trust, and Prayer go into my creative process. And at the end, I’m always amazed at what work of art has been created. Much like how God created us.

That is the foundation of Bright Young Thing! Celebrating that you are a work of art with a beautiful story, process, and testimony that is worth being told and shared with people. To encourage people to shine their light and shine it for God.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My biggest struggle, honestly, has been keeping my inner critic quiet.

As an artist, you are very sensitive about your work. The need for it to be perfect is never-ending. The questions of whether my customers will like what I come up with and will I have to start over are constant.

However, my best work has always been when I turn off the voice and just trust the creative process. I go with the flow and in the end, I have created something the customer and I both love.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Bright Young Thing is all about celebrating the beautiful, one-of-kind creation that you are.

When you purchase a painting, you can rest assured that your art is one of a kind. Just like you! God created only one of you. Your story and your testimony are all yours, and that should be celebrated and cherished, never hidden.

This is the thing that sets Bright Young Thing apart. It’s more than artwork for your home or business. It’s a testament to your story in Christ.

I think that is what I’m most proud of. Just sharing what God gave me with people in hopes it will inspire them to do the same.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts, or blogs that help you do your best?
I listen to some great podcasts. One of my favorites right now is The Great Girlfriends Show. They talk about a wide variety of topics from self-empowerment and self-love to dealing with the nuances of everyday life. I also follow a lot of positive content on my social media platforms. Pages that I really love are Nedra Tawwab and Alex Elle.

For video content, I enjoy watching Nikki Leverett on YouTube and TikTok. She is a rising abstract artist and just loves everything that she shares.
