Exploring Life & Business with Deidra Whitsett of The Frosted Oven

Today we’d like to introduce you to Deidra Whitsett.

Hi Deidra, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I started doing cakes after a 47-day stint in the hospital. It was truly a gift from God because I knew nothing about baking.

I’m a former pro Women’s Football player and athletic standout in basketball and volleyball so that was all I knew was sports.

It amazes me to go from a Hall of Fame athlete to a whole new purpose baffles me until this day but I go with it and turns out to be a great and fulfilling journey.

The doctors had me pegged for dead and somehow I made it through a rough medical journey to what I’m doing today.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It was and it wasn’t a smooth road.

As I previously mentioned what I’m doing is a gift so it came with the perks of the talent but the rough part came in growing in and with the talent. Establishing a brand and skill building was trying yet fun. It’s constant growth and requires boots to the ground every single day.

You can’t be lazy, you have to sacrifice many moments and hours and keep up with trends and a lot of work. You also get to see the joys and wows of your work which makes it all worth it.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about The Frosted Oven?
I specialize in custom cakes for all types of events. I’ve been blessed to do cakes for a few celebrities and pro athletes. I’ve come to be known for my attention to detail and creative eye.

I’ve always been told that my customer service skills were awesome and I was easy to connect with when people would talk to me. I’m guessing they’re right because I’ve gained a lot of friends who are still clients. Some of the work I’m most proud of are the cakes I said I wouldn’t do which are my fancy buttercream cakes and the cakes that look like food.

I believe in the focal point of my cakes at events. I want them to be a highlight and a wow factor. I love how people still talk about them way after the event is over. My feedback is incredible.

I’m so honored and humbled to get to be a part of such milestone moments and I take them seriously to the point I want to be a part of my own by doing my own wedding cake in March 2023 which will be epic. I want to feel what my clients feel. Sounds crazy but I’m excited to do it because I get to create.

As far as getting on the calendar you have to do it super early as in months out because I have a loyal nucleus of clients and new ones are serious about those available slots.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I’m a spiritual thinker so I like to say it’s not lucked it’s God.

A divine blessing that comes with a promise so I expect to do nothing but thrive. I walk in my purpose on purpose. I have a great support switch between my future husband and close friends so it makes life easier.
