Exploring Life & Business with Lisa Monger of 901FitLife

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Monger.

Hi Lisa, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My fitness journey started after I had two kids. At the time I was a working wife and mother in the banking and finance field.

I hit 199 pounds and knew I had to make a shift in my habits so that I could continue to be my best self in my career and at home. My husband and I started running together. That is one of the great gems about Memphis, it has such a strong running community. While running together, we began to sign up for various 5Ks around the city.

Later, I joined a local fitness studio and an instructor encouraged me to pursue my personal training certification. Since that time, I’ve worked across studios in the city and built my personal training brand – 901FitLIfe.

This past year, I took a big leap and left my job in banking to pursue fitness and personal training as my full-time career.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Before the COVID-19 pandemic, I was determined to make the step from banking to fitness. I wanted to help others like me build a healthy, happy, and whole lifestyle. I had written my letter of resignation and was prepared to begin building a bigger presence for 901FitLife.

The pandemic changed so much for so many people and I had a front-row seat to how it affected the fitness industry. I watched gyms close throughout the city and readapt their format to service their clients online.

I felt I needed to wait for a bit more security in the industry before making such a big step.

We’ve been impressed with 901FitLife, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
901FitLife is geared toward helping females build strength inside and out of the gym. While my clients may initially come to me for weight loss and/or muscle gain, I also aim to give them tools that help them build a healthier lifestyle and focus on overall wellness and mindset.

I feel my focus on a personal connection with my clients sets me apart. I have a knack for pushing them past their limit, but not in a way that will discourage them in their journey. I also aim to educate my clients along the way so they have the tools to continue growing beyond our client/trainer relationship.

I am proud to represent those who are looking for a holistic lifestyle integration – what some people call balance. I love helping my clients navigate being a mom, and wife and still getting in that time for themselves to reach their fitness and wellness goals.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
There are going to be days when you feel like stopping, days when you have the energy to give your all, and days when you are too sore to keep moving. Find ways to move that you enjoy. Just keep going.
