Today we’d like to introduce you to Brooktavia Hampton.

Hi Brooktavia, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I simply love jewelry. It is a statement piece, allowing people to express themselves. I feel that no outfit is entirely complete without it. I’ve had my share of experiences with low-quality jewelry, green skin, and expensive jewelry. In December of 2019, I had the idea to start a jewelry business.

I know there are many people who have shared the same experiences and feelings as me. So, I came to the conclusion that I will provide affordable jewelry options without forfeiting the high quality of the pieces. I dabbled around with selling jewelry on the side and barely promoting on Instagram, until November 2020. I created my website and got very serious about my brand and business.

I named my business after myself; my nickname is Frosty. After many months, I found my aesthetic and revamped my social media presence. Since then, I have focused on growing my accounts, reaching my target audience, and inventory matching the vibe of my brand- luxury.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
My journey definitely has not been a smooth road. There are many struggles that come along with entrepreneurship that I was not totally aware of before beginning my journey. There have been so many lessons I have learned in the last year and a half.

Not knowing my specific niche, in the beginning, was a hindering factor because, without a good niche, your target audience is not specific. My brand is catered to women who love S925 Sterling Silver Jewelry.

Another fact I learned was that strangers will be your biggest supporters. I remember I used to press my “friends” about supporting my business- who never did support me, to add on. One day, I just stopped, because if someone wants to support you, they will.

The same goes for the pricing of my pieces. If people want it, they will buy it. I used to lowball my prices to try to get sales, which did not work in all honesty. I offer Sterling Silver Jewelry, so if people will spend hundreds of dollars at Pandora Jewelry for the same material, they can spend a fraction of that with my brand if they want to.

I had to get rid of the fast result mindset and compare as well. Building a brand takes time and patience. I was expecting results because I was seeing others get results faster than myself, not knowing how long it took them to get to their positions.

Comparison steals joy; it caused me to want to give up a few times. Thank God, I did not let that happen. I still experience months with little to no sales, but it’s all a part of the journey.

I also finally learned what “you have to spend money to make money” meant. I have spent a ton on my brand to find the perfect vendor, packaging, aesthetic, etc. But, investing in yourself will always be a major move. I am building a platform for my happiness and my future.

My biggest lesson is to keep God in front of my plans. If it is in his will, it will happen. He will open all doors and windows I need. I have a lot of growth to do along with big plans for my business.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was a quiet, shy girl.

Though, since going off to college I sort of got out of my shell. I cheered all of the high school at Germantown High and danced competitively from seventh grade until my senior year in high school. I now hold the captain position for the Jackson State University Dazzlers Pom Team.

I am one of the sweetest people you’d ever meet. I try my best to be sure everyone is happy and comfortable because it makes me happy. To this day, people confide in me about many things because I am trustworthy and give pretty great advice.

I have grown in my presence in God and make sure to stay aligned with his plans, always.
