Inspiring Conversations with Sepideh Yazdanfar of Sy design

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sepideh Yazdanfar.

Hi Sepideh, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My name is Sepideh Yazdanfar.
I am an architect and interior designer, born in Tehran, Iran.
I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture from the United Arab Emirates (Dubai) and a Master’s degree from Iran.
I have been working professionally in the field for the past seven years, managing and designing various projects.
I recently moved to the United States and hope to make a meaningful impact in the field of architecture and interior design here

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
One of the biggest challenges I’ve faced recently was relocating to the United States and starting over in a new country and professional environment. While I have several years of experience in architecture and interior design, adjusting to a new culture, market expectations, and networking from scratch has been both exciting and demanding.

Although moving to the U.S. was the second migration in my life — since I had previously lived in Dubai — this time, both my age and my purpose were different.

At first, I faced uncertainty about how to connect with the right people and how to position myself in a competitive industry. But I approached it as an opportunity to grow—by researching the market, improving my language and communication skills, attending design events, and staying open to learning. This transition taught me resilience, adaptability, and the value of stepping out of my comfort zone to pursue bigger goals.

We’ve been impressed with Sy design, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am an interior designer passionate about creating meaningful spaces that reflect people’s stories and cultures. My work blends modern aesthetics with emotional connection, and I love using design to inspire comfort and creativity.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
One of the most valuable lessons I’ve learned is to compare myself only to who I was yesterday — not to others.
I believe success isn’t a final destination, but an ongoing journey.
Each day that I show up as a better version of myself, even in small ways, I’m moving closer to the goals I’ve set.
That steady growth, in my opinion, is the true definition of success.
