Life & Work with Alonda Sims

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alonda Sims.

Hi Alonda, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Being a country girl from Arkansas, I have always wanted to do more with my life. For me, I knew that someday I would be great, but I also knew that I would have to go through a lot to get there. I haven’t always been easy for me. By the grace of God, I have managed to conquer death three times. When I was younger, I wanted and desire to be loved by family, friends, and anyone that I knew would give me genuine love. I was not all that good in school, but I got through it. Then attempted to go to community college and didn’t do really good but I did ok. It wasn’t until I started Strayer University that I started to see just how well I could actually do in school. Currently majoring in Business Administration. While in my early years of college I fell in love photography. Something about it just made me so excited about life.

I developed a passion for photography over ten plus years ago. I made the decision to become a full-time photographer. It was in 2016 that my Bishop at the time appointed me as Chief Photographer of March of Faith International Fellowship, INC.

After becoming chief photographer, I knew then I wanted to do this professionally. I started by shooting with various couples and even shooting birthdays. I would shoot various church events for MOF (March of Faith).

At that moment, I started to really practice my skills and shoot with anyone that would give me the opportunity. People started to see my gift and would ask me to do birthday shoots and then, I got into doing weddings. Manifested Glory Studios will birth, and I wanted to become a professional photographer. 2021, I became a part of the West Memphis Chamber of Commerce. 2021 I had the opportunity to shoot for Juneteenth with Telisa Franklin.

2022, I had the opportunity to shoot the West Memphis Chamber of Commerce 75th Annual Awards Banquet. Photography is more than a gift for me. Photography gives me the opportunity to share the stories of others through the lens of my camera. I’m able to help those who may believe they don’t have a voice share it through photos.

Although I have accomplished many things, I believe I have much more to accomplish. This is just the beginning for me and Manifested Glory Studios. I’m not perfect all but I can definitely say that where I am now has been peaceful and such a joy. Remember my name and my business name because one day the world will know it too.

Albert Einstein said, “One picture is worth a thousand words”. I truly believe just that.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not always been a smooth road. I have made some mistakes and had to learn from them. I honestly had to relearn customer service all over again. I had to become learn how becoming a student of things could really change EVERYTHING.

During shoots, I would have a difficult time knowing exactly what setting I would need to shoot within each scene. This became frustrating. Even with this, my clients were patient with me. They never criticized me or talk bad about me, but they actually helped me in many ways. Not having a studio has been a struggle for me as well.

However, I have been able to manage without having one. The great thing about photography has once you learn your niche and what you’re good at, everything will fall into place.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a Professional Photographer that specializes in weddings, engagements, birthdays, and events. I’m known for doing a lot of birthday shoots. Birthdays and events have become two of the most requested. Weddings and engagements allow me to connect with the couple and share their love story with everyone through photos.

I’m most proud that I have been able to conquer what others said I couldn’t. I have said, “I refuse to waste time proving people wrong, but I live to prove God right”. What sets me apart from others is that Manifested Glory Studios is not just a business for me. Doing photography allows me to share Christ will others as well. It allows me to shine the light that’s within and show people that love exists. In this day and time, it’s hard finding genuine people who are lovable and respectable.

I do understand that no one will believe in what I believe so I do respect that and others’ wishes. I never bring up my beliefs, but I show them by the way I treat and show love to others. This is what separates me from others. I’m different and unique. I never try to be something or someone that I’m not. It’s hard being myself at times so there’s no time to become something or someone I’m not.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Everything concerning my business has been self-taught. I taught myself how to work the camera, how to take pictures, and even how to edit them. I taught myself photoshop and how to create different things on it. I don’t have a degree or certificate in photography.

I went to school for Studio Photography, but they shut the school down in mid-semester. Everything that I know concerning photography and even some graphics have been self-taught. I learn by watching others as well. Currently, working on my own website. So, if I watch you do something I can do it within an hour or so.

Technology is my thing, so it doesn’t take long for me to learn anything that has to do with technology.
