Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Daniels.
Hi Chelle, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hello, My name is Michelle. Born and raised in Chicago. A mother of 3 girls. I am a braider/ entrepreneur in Elkhart Indiana.I started my braiding business a year ago in the front room of my home.
It all started when I was eleven years old. My older sister taught me how to braid so that we can do each other hair. Since then I’ve been doing hair on and off. I never really thought to make my talent a business, I just knew I loved doing hair and was very good at it.
Growing up having kids and working from job to job trying to see what fits me was sometimes a struggle because I had the mindset of not settling and becoming my own boss. I knew some day I will be working for myself, and that time came. I wanted to take what I was good at and make a business out of it. I stepped out on faith and been working for myself for 2 years now.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Definitely NOT a smooth road.
I’ve had my downfalls and good days. Being an entrepreneur is not an easy job. You will go through so many different emotions. There will be some days you make money and some days you make nothing. That’s when faith test you. Are you going to give up or keep pushing forward regardless of you not making any thing certain days.
In the entrepreneur field you have to be consistent. You have to promote yourself every day. You have to support yourself even when nobody supports you, you still have to show up for you. Always keep going no matter what. It gets rough and that’s the part nobody tells you about. What matters most is you go hard every day to come out a winner.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I been a entrepreneur for 2 years. Got my llc and took a braid class in the same month. One of the best decisions I’ve made. Im a braider in Indiana. When I became an entrepreneur I started out selling lipgloss and pajamas. After a while I started to feel like I wanted to do more So I started braiding kids and adults hair and enjoyed the different styles. I do all kinds of braid styles. I have a private suit in Indiana. I’m working towards owning a braid salon and adding more styles such as braid wigs to the list real soon.
I’m known for doing hair, having good vibes and a dope personality. I’m most proud of myself actually getting into the entrepreneur field and becoming my own boss.
What sets me apart from others is I don’t work for just the money. This is my passion, my happiness.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts, or blogs that help you do your best?
Til Tok, YouTube and instagram is what helps me a lot. I get on these apps to see different hair styles I can try or learn.
I’m a reader I love all books but mainly books that helps me gain knowledge, that’s what keeps me focused and keeps my mind open. One of the best books I’ve read so far is “ Rich Dad Poor Dad”. Teaches you a lot about the way you think. Good book.
Anything that helps me learn I’m for it.
