Hi Montez, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My brand was created/inspired after the untimely demise of Trayvon Martin. A lot of outlets were saying how he looked “suspicious” because of his black hoody. I thought to myself, “what if his hoody had a positive message”? That’s when I came up with “Black&Educated”!
Originally it was just going to be a brand that I was going to wear myself. However, after wearing It in public, all the positive feedback I received, I decided to sale them.
From there, I’ve grown and sold all around the country.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There have been many lessons during this journey. Some of the lessons come with trial and errors. You have to find your target audience. That takes time. Then you have to find what your audience likes. That also takes time. I call them lessons and not losses. In 2021 I invested over 10k in my brand, and It didn’t go as planned .
I would tell people, don’t get discouraged when others don’t see your vision. It’s a journey! Stay consistent, and stay in your lane.

I am a brand owner! I specialize in designing clothes and putting smiles on faces. I’m known for always being the love of the party. The positive energy that comes and brightens the day!
I’m most proud of being from Memphis, and being a positive influence in a city that has a bad reputation right now.
I’m different from others, because I stay in my lane and run my own race. I’m not afraid to be myself in any room I walk in. I’m always Montez Fifer.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Quality over Quantity!! Put out good quality, and promote! Do your best to stay in your audience face!! Always keep some of your brand on you, you never know when you’ll see someone that’s interested and wants to purchase.
