Today we’d like to introduce you to Ranequa Bean.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
350 Baked started at the beginning of a pandemic, scheduled to launch with a Sip and Taste before our big day at the Memphis Farmers Market. That memory is still so vivid and it truly amazes me how supportive our community is of one another, especially in a season of turmoil.

350 Baked pivoted and started off as a home-based business selling slices of cakes, cookies, and brownies, then became a vendor at the Downtown Memphis Farmers in April 2020. We were under strict covid restrictions and once again our community showed out creating our infamous theme of “Sold-out-Saturdays”.

You all couldn’t get enough because the demand outweighed the supply, it was time for growth. In our first year at the Farmers Market, we sold over 3,000 cakes, 1,500 brownies, and 1,000 cobblers. We partnered with 3 local businesses, Cordelia’s Market, High Point Grocery, and Plant-Based Heat to get our cakes in your homes.

In just a short 4 months we have sold over 3,500 cakes! This number does not include our numbers at the farmer’s market and Food Truck Thursdays.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road has not been easy by ANY means! We are 3 years in and this is only the beginning! Some of the struggles for us was trying to figure out how we were going to get our products out to the public during a pandemic.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I graduated from the Art Institute in Nashville, TN, earning my Associate in Baking and Pastry and bachelor’s in Culinary Management.

During my time in school, I have worked as a line cook, sous chef, executive chef, and food service director, and now I am a full business owner of 350 Baked! 350 Baked specializes in cakes, cookies, cheesecakes, and brownies. Our signature item is our “Cheesecake Cakes!”

We have 3 flavors! We have a Strawberry Lemonade Cheesecake Cake, Turtle Cheesecake Cake, and Oreo Cheesecake Cake. (I would love to share pictures).

What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love that our city is full of culture and so much talent! The food scene is amazing and everyone loves to support each other!
