Life & Work with Torian Jewell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Torian Jewell.

Hi Torian, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Originally born in California to two military members, my mother and I moved to Memphis once I turned 1.

From there, I spent 14 years of my young life in Memphis. Some of the best moments of my life were enjoying many of the great cornerstone events and landmarks the city had to offer.

I moved away from high school and came back upon graduating. Once I came back, I decided to join the Air Force after three years back home and have been traveling the world since 2013!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Growing up was fairly simple and carefree. My mother was a police officer and did everything she could to ensure I had a great upbringing. Around my 8th grade year, my mother got involved with a terrible officer romantically.

Things escalated when she found out she wasn’t being truthful about his second life. This caused things to spiral out of control for my mother and caused her to lose her job. We were homeless shortly after and bounced around from family member to family member until we moved in with my grandmother.

I lost my mother at the age of 16 while I was away in Kentucky! Life wasn’t easy but the memories of my mother still help me push on day by day!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m currently on active duty but my passion has always been in music! I’ve been on this path since 2011 and I’m really most proud of creating sound bodies of work that the next generation can grab inspiration from!

All of my social media is @MrYungT92 and I’m on all Digital Streaming Platforms as Yung T. You can find me by searching up Lavander Yung T as well!

I feel like no one in Memphis sounds like I do musically, which is what sets me apart from the rest. In a city where we have great legends and thriving artists, I feel I can be a part of that conversation one day!

What was your favorite childhood memory?
Liberty Land, the Mid-South Fair, the Pink Palace, the Children’s Museum, the Zoo… so many great memories I can’t just pick one!
