Meet Taylor White of Louisville, KY

Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor White.

Taylor White

Hi Taylor, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Kids Born Wrong started in late 2015. I spent most of that summer writing our first batch of songs and making demo recordings. I talked to a friend, Jerry Hill, to play bass, and he recommended a drummer he knew. I met Chase in the basement i was using to work in. We got to playing and it clicked. We learned the material and started booking shows around town. In 2016 we recorded our first album “Orphaned Trash Mutants” as well as a collection of covers called “We Were Promised Wastelands”. Even though we’ve gone through a few bassists (and even some time without one at all), Chase and I have always been at the core of the band. Tony joined on bass prior to COVID and he’s been a part of us ever since.
In 2017, we released “The Toxic Wraith EP”, which we later re-recorded with Tony since we weren’t really happy with those initial recordings.
In 2018, we released “Giallo”, a 5-song EP on cassette tape. Our first physical release with What’s For Breakfast Records.
In 2020 we started on “Book of Vile Darkness”, which we released two years later. What’s For Breakfast released this for us too.
in 2023 we released the single “Corporate Sent Me”
We continue to create new material as well, and look forward to travelling around and playing them for people!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
We face the challenges of any other working-class rock band, mainly balancing between staying active and still paying the rent. Travelling is expensive, and every day we spend away from home is another shift that doesn’t go to the bills. For the same reason, finding time to actually be creative and to practice can be difficult. Nevertheless we make an effort to play outside of our own city as much as we can. During COVID lockdown of course there were no shows to be played, and many bands and venues just disintegrated. Fortunately we already had plans locked in place to record an album, so we stayed busy through that whole thing.
Other than that, yeah, smooth.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
So aside from Kids Born Wrong, I had a stint writing table-top role-playing games for Palladium Books, which was enormously satisfying. I’ve also written a few books and did some short films. I love stories, and characters. This of course informs all my work. I mostly work in horror and absurd fiction, which colors everything I create. I like to think of Kids Born Wrong songs as little monsters, villains, and misanthropes who love to party. Chase and Tony and I also have our own solo music projects. I have a noise project under the name Niles Kane. It’s hard to pick a favorite, but our 2022 album Book of Vile Darkness was the most ambitious work to date. A lot of thought and creativity went into that record. We pressed it on this gorgeous gold vinyl, which was very expensive. We made a whole kickstarter to pay for it, with rewards and a short horror film explaining it all. It was very cool. It nods to TTRPGs in its presentation, so we come full circle.
As far as what sets me apart, I prefer to let my work speak for itself.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Gotta stay crazy, gotta stay hungry, gotta stay focused.
