Today we’d like to introduce you to Courtney Loveless.
Hi Courtney, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I’ve always had a passion for Memphis, as well as for the food that defines the Memphis culture. I first started Memphis Brunch simply as a way to post about trendy and delicious brunch spots around the city.
As the account began to grow, I expanded to highlight all the incredible food throughout Memphis from the lens of a “brunch lifestyle”, which, to me, simply means leisurely and fun dining with friends and family.
Food brings people together, and I think the unique food scene in Memphis is definitely something that we all can be proud of. Memphis Brunch now allows me to help connect people to restaurants and events throughout Memphis- new and old.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Learning the ropes of partnerships and promoting others’ businesses was tricky at first because I wanted to fulfill their expectations and ensure that each establishment was satisfied with my work. After direction and patience from my earliest partners, I have developed skills that will keep growing as Memphis Brunch continues.
In addition, when the city shut down during COVID, it was heartbreaking to see some of my favorite restaurants struggling to stay afloat. Throughout that time, I tried to help by promoting take-out and delivery options as much as possible for the local restaurants we all love.
I also tried to highlight ways that loved ones could continue connecting through Memphis food and events while remaining socially distant. Some of my favorite alternatives provided by incredible businesses throughout the city were virtual cooking classes, virtual trivia nights, and “family dinner” take-out meals.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’ve loved growing my food photography skills throughout the years! Aside from partnerships on the Memphis Brunch account, I am always excited to take new clients and photograph the foods they are most proud of.
My goal is to highlight the diversity throughout the food scene of Memphis. Being born and raised in Memphis adds a unique component to the Memphis Brunch food blog. I’ve been blessed with the opportunity to see the food culture throughout Memphis grow as the city has expanded throughout the past twenty years.
I still dine in many of the same restaurants I frequented throughout my childhood. Conversely, I’ve enjoyed meeting people and making memories in the new establishments as well. I’ve also seen older restaurants evolve, as well as people from other cities transform the food scene by bringing their versions of our favorite dishes to the city!
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love the culture of Memphis and its unique “small town/big city” vibe. Of course, the food is also incredible. In fact, the food is so incredible that Memphians often struggle with the big debate of “where should we eat tonight?”
If you’re from Memphis, you know what I’m talking about! The most challenging question I get is, “what restaurants should I try while I’m in town?”
To me, Memphis has some of the best food in the world across all genres- barbeque, Italian, Latin, southern homestyle, etc. From Ching’s Wings to Coastal Fish, to Payne’s BBQ, Memphis takes the win on food no matter where you’re from.
I’m sure everyone can agree that the weather in Memphis has been a struggle this year! The ice storms during the winter and the severe temperatures this summer have made it tough to enjoy all of the awesome outdoor experiences that Memphis has to offer!
