Rising Stars: Meet Graciela Chan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Graciela Chan.

Hi Graciela, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
At first, I had a mentor who opened my mind to it at first but I grew up with the idea of “If you didn’t go to college you wouldn’t make it.” I did the college thing for 2 years and just felt clueless about what I truly felt passionate about.

I’ve always loved make-up, facials, waxing, etc. I fell in love with the Aesthetician world. My older sister Angela would always ask me to do facials, make-up, hair do and such on her.

One day, she gifted me a wax pot and told me to research and practice so I would later be able to wax her. I understood the mission. I even learned how to wax myself. I have perfected my craft for the last 2 years & now I am ready for bigger things.

Today, I am now enrolled at Memphis Skin Academy to pursue my Aesthetician license. I hope to further myself and truly make a difference in women who aren’t so confident with razor bumps or discoloration. As a retired shaver, I do notice the bumps, scars, and discoloration has gone away because of waxing.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My struggle is asking for help to further my passion. I thought me waxing was just another hobby but it became something very calming like therapy to me.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a future Aesthetician.

I specialize in full woman body waxing & certain male services. I am mostly known for Brazilian waxing. I am proud of myself for finding something I am really passionate about.

What sets me apart from others is that once something has piqued my interest I fully put my all into it. I will read a textbook over and over again till I have it memorized.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I tend to get overwhelmed about the littlest things and will suffer in silence rather than letting it out.
