Today we’d like to introduce you to Lonisa Bowen.
Hi Lonisa, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’m Lonisa but everyone knows me as “Lala”. I’m a self–taught baker. I’ve always loved to bake. I wanted to own a bakery, making cakes. I never knew my love for baking would turn to make macarons instead. I begin making macarons after I was introduced to one. I fell in love with the texture of the cookie along with the flavor.
After two years of trial and error to create a recipe that worked and I begin selling to friends and family. I loved baking Macarons so much, that “The Sift Bakery” was born. A one-woman bakery that specializes in creating unique colors and patterns that go along with each flavor my mind will allow me to create. I’m truly grateful for my customers and all the relationships I’ve built along the way. I wouldn’t be able to have this business without all the love and support of my customers.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Finding a recipe that would allow me to get the best results due to Memphis weather, was the most challenging.

I am a full-time baker now. I absolutely love baking macarons, it’s therapeutic for me. Sift Bakery is known for the crazy flavors and colors we do. Oreo can be blue this week and purple next week. Our flavor list is over 100. We take pride in making sure your experience the best flavor and texture when eating our macarons.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Have patience. Good things never come easy, always remember that. This business has taught me so much. I’m learning every day.
