Hi Tamia, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
In 2020, I discovered my passion for hair as a heartfelt response to the loss of my great-grandmother, who passed away that July. We shared a special bond, and I have vivid memories of playing with her hair, unaware that those moments would plant the seeds for my future as a braider.
Self-taught and fiercely determined, I asked my parents for a mannequin head for Christmas, which became my canvas for creativity. I poured hours into perfecting my braiding skills, practicing relentlessly until I finally achieved the looks I envisioned. In those early days, my results didn’t always match my expectations, but I learned that mastery takes time and persistence and doesn’t happen overnight.
Looking back now, I am filled with pride for how far I’ve come. The journey from those early attempts to where I am today has been rewarding, and it has allowed me to honor my great-grandmother’s memory through the art of braiding hair.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been a rocky road, filled with both good days and challenging ones. On the bright side, I cherish the opportunity to meet new people and cultivate meaningful connections with them. I take great satisfaction in helping my clients feel confident and empowered.
However, there are moments when the journey feels slower. Certain seasons can lead to quieter days, sometimes shaking my confidence. Yet, I remind myself that this flow is a natural part of the process, and I trust that things will pick up again in time. Embracing these highs and lows is all part of what makes this journey worthwhile.
