Today we’d like to introduce you to Tina Moore.
Hi Tina, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My church New Growth in Christ is what inspired me to start and prosper in my business. Looking back at notes and memories, the message shared on a Sunday morning in January 2014 by my awesome Bishop Sidney P. Malone. In that service, it was shared that thing, that one thing that you are passionate about. That thing that you would do for free, let that be what would be your side hustle. Let that make money for you. It was then where the title of my business was birthed.
Cakes and Cuppycakes has been in business for 11 years.
February 2025 marks 101years.
I have been baking since the age of 9. This is when I baked my first cake.
What inspires me is staying in the word of God. God is real and it is imperative that I stay connected to him. To hear his voice and follow his instruction. In this season, God is saying that I am to have an “Abundant Mindset” and to declare, “I want MORE”. I want more peace, miracles, increase, connections, instruction, training, discipline, and resources. I want to inspire others to stay true to themselves. Utilize the gift and allow the world to see what God has given them.
After graduating from Jackson State University in 2013 with my Doctorate, respectfully I was called Dr. Moore. I’d like to share that when I started my business “Cakes and Cuppycakes” in February 2014, people were began to call me Dr. Cuppy. I thought that this was totally cute and have been called Dr. Cuppy every since.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The journey hasn’t always been easy. There were challenging moments, missteps, and occasional miscommunication along the way.
Key lessons I’ve learned:
Document everything thoroughly and confirm requests by repeating them back.
Record accurate dates on the calendar and regularly review upcoming needs.
Plan ahead by ordering inventory and supplies in advance.
Most importantly, I’ve learned never to assume—clarity is crucial. Whenever I had doubts, I made it a point to call the customer and confirm.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
What drives me is my deep love for baking—it’s more than a hobby, it’s my passion. I’ve been baking since I was nine years old, entirely self-taught, and every dessert I create is a reflection of that journey.
Through my business, Cakes and Cuppycakes, I get to express my creativity in both flavor and design. The name itself celebrates the sweet treats I craft with care. I believe this is a gift, and I want people from all walks of life to experience the joy and taste the blessing that God has placed in my hands.
One of the beautiful opportunities I’ve had is being a vendor at various events. It’s a chance for customers to sample some of my most-loved creations—Strawberry Lemonade Cookies, Orange-Flavored Cookies, rich Chocolate Cakes, Strawberry Crunch Cuppycakes, and Banana Pudding Cuppycakes, just to name a few.
What brings me the most joy is being part of life’s special moments—birthdays, wedding anniversaries, business milestones, and graduations. Customers trust me to help make these occasions unforgettable with personalized cakes and cuppycakes that reflect their stories.
Yes, there are many bakers and cake shops out there—but there is only one Cakes and Cuppycakes. I built this business from the ground up, and I’m incredibly proud of the gift God has given me.
Every dessert I bake is infused with passion and love. My hope is that with every bite, customers can taste the care, creativity, and heart that goes into it.
