Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Murden.
Hi Jennifer, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
As a mom and former elementary teacher, I saw how fast childhood moves—and how easily connection can slip away. Screens replaced stories, tests replaced play, and families found themselves in the same room, but worlds apart. I wanted more—for my students, for my kids, for all of us. So I left the classroom and created Tasty Tales, a hands-on experience that brings families together through cooking, stories, and creativity.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The Tasty Tales Test Kitchen is a group of elementary aged students who have been testing stories, recipes and STREAM activities for 25 years. That part of the company has been very easy to get up and running. There is a huge desire for kids to participate in hands on activities that provide real life skill training, like cooking.
Once we decided to package and ship the program across the US so that all families could experience literature and cooking the Tasty Tales way, the learning curve started.
Building websites, designing hand drawn recipe cards, finding vendors for aprons, binders and shipping boxes was all very new to me.
But I think the hardest part has been building @tastytalescooking, our Instagram site which showcases what Tasty Tales Cooking is all about.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Tasty Tales Cooking ?
This Subscription Plan Might Be New — But It’s Been Kid-Tested for Over 20 Years
At Tasty Tales, every recipe, story, and hands-on activity has been tried, tweaked, and totally approved by hundreds of real kids.
We’ve spent decades in classrooms, kitchens, and around family tables to make sure what’s inside your monthly package is packed with fun, flavor, and learning that really sticks.
It’s this real-kid testing that sets us apart—because if it’s not kid-approved, it doesn’t make the cut.
It started over 20 years ago as a cozy after-school program where kids read picture books, cooked recipes inspired by the stories, and created keepsakes they could truly call their own. Now, it’s a movement to Connect, Cook, Create, and Collect—a slower, sweeter way to savor what matters most.
We believe in:
~ Laughter in the kitchen and cookbooks full of memories
~ Stories shared between siblings, parents, and grandparents
~ Flour-covered counters, sticky fingers, and full hearts
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
Take your time and learn as much as you can. It’s not about the destination, it’s about the journey. If you’re doing something you love, the journey will fill you, motivate you and push you to be the best you can be.
