Life & Work with Melanie Redd of Memphis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Melanie Redd.

Hi Melanie, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’m a woman who loves to encourage, equip, train, and motivate other women. My kids tell me I am all about rainbows and butterflies! Maybe a little.

Honestly, I’m a morning person with a very positive outlook on life. It’s my joy to offer hope to others.

One of my favorite Bible verses is 1 Thessalonians 5:11, “So encourage each other and build each other up, just as you are already doing.”

In the early years of work, I taught school and wrote Sunday school curriculum and magazine articles for Lifeway Christian Resources in Nashville.

Then, about 15 years ago, I launched my own speaking, blogging, and writing ministry. It’s called Hope Ministry.

As a speaker and as a writer, I love to inspire others using the Bible, practical applications, a little wit, and a whole lot of common sense. Primarily, I speak to women’s groups and church groups around the Memphis and Mid-South area.

People tell me that they love the way I take complicated biblical and relational concepts and make them simple to understand and put to use.

My days are filled with ministry both online and offline. You’ll find me encouraging a friend at a local coffee shop, cheering on a group of young moms, writing an article for my blog, posting to social media, working on my latest book, and spending time in prayer with friends – all on the same day.

I’m an energetic woman who loves to share the love of Christ with everyone around her.

Above all, I’m a wife and a mom who greatly enjoys spending time with my family. I’m a minister’s wife and the mother of two amazing young adults.

We live in the suburbs outside of Memphis, Tennessee, with a cute little Mini Australian Shepherd named Scout.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
One of my greatest struggles in life has been trying to please others.

I’m a firstborn, people-pleasing woman who “wants to make everyone happy kind of girl!”

Truly, I’ve spent way too much time thinking about what others thought or said about me. I’ve let others’ opinions, requests, rules, and regulations dominate way too much of my time.

In these last few years, I’m learning that what matters most is so much simpler. God accepts me and loves me dearly. For this reason alone, I can accept myself and love myself, too.

Each morning, I now like to get up and pray this simple prayer, “God, what do You want us to do today?”

This has been so freeing!

I’m no longer taking surveys, reading the winds of public opinion, or trying to please anyone else. I’m just going about my day and my business, getting things done while trusting that God will lead me to the perfect people, places, and things I need to encounter.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
As I hit midlife, I decided to go back to school and finish my master’s degree. I was about 15-20 years older than most of my classmates.

But what an incredible learning experience it was!

Not only did I finish my degree, but I also made so many amazing young friends.

In the middle of all of this, I learned a great deal about technology. My young friends taught me so much about my smartphone, computer, the Internet, apps, and creating content.

Upon graduation, I began creating social media content and videos. I also created my own website and began to write books.

It’s been amazing to jump into a market and a world where (at the time) very few people my age were involved. Understanding and working online and in social media has been a blast. It’s something I still greatly enjoy!
