Today we’d like to introduce you to Jazzmin Rodgers.
Hi Jazzmin, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Cre8 started as a vision back in 2018 — I wanted to build a community of professionals and create opportunity. At the time, I was living in Nashville, working full-time in HR, while also building a personal brand on the side as a content creator — doing UGC, brand collaborations, and even partnering with Aerie as a Real ambassador back in 2019. So content creation and storytelling were already a passion of mine outside of my 9-to-5.
In 2019, my mom and I started looking for physical spaces in both Nashville and Memphis to bring the community vision to life. But then the pandemic hit and put everything on pause. Not long after, I made the decision to move back to Memphis, where I’m originally from and where my family is.
The idea resurfaced around 2022 — I started by planning networking events to begin building that community first. Then in 2023, I lost my job, and my mom and I decided it was time to stop planning and just jump fully into the space. That leap of faith is what officially became Cre8: what started as the idea for a co-working space evolved into a content studio and social media agency, as we saw how much demand there was for businesses and creators to get support showing up online. Looking back, losing that job was the push I needed — it became my last straw with corporate America, and I made the decision to walk out on faith and trust that God had something bigger for me. From there, Cre8 has grown into the full-service studio and agency it is today, and I’m still building it one step of faith at a time.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. I’m a single woman without a spouse to help offset any income changes, so when things got tight, there was no safety net to fall back on — it was all on me. I ended up investing and living off of all my savings to put into the business. Nobody really talks about the mental weight that comes with trying to handle everything yourself — and then add losing a job and starting a business from scratch on top of that.
I had to really lean into my faith during this season. I dealt with depression, imposter syndrome, sadness, and moments where I questioned everything. It tested my faith in ways I didn’t expect. But looking back, it also grew me — in character, in faith, in resilience — and taught me how to find peace in uncertainty instead of needing everything to be figured out before I could move forward.
We’ve been impressed with Cre8, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Cre8 is a content studio and full-service social media agency based in downtown Memphis. We help businesses, show up consistently online with strategy.
What sets us apart is that we’re not just an agency — we’re also a physical content studio. We’re the only operation in Memphis that combines a full-service agency with a multipurpose rentable content space, so creators and businesses can come in and shoot photo, video, podcasts, or host events and workshops in a space designed for it. What I’m most proud of, brand-wise, is that Cre8 was built from the ground up — out of faith, out of a leap I took with my mom, and out of a genuine desire to create opportunity for creative professionals in Memphis. We’re not just building a business; we’re building jobs and opportunity in the creative space here in our city.
What I want readers to know is that Cre8 is for anyone who knows they need to show up online but doesn’t have the time, team, or space to do it well — we become that team and that space for you.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was always a creative in some capacity. I played cello, percussion, and trumpet in band, sang in concert choir at school and bell choir at church, danced on the dance team, cheered, and even made my own designer jeans and crafts at home. Creative expression has just always been part of who I am, in one form or another.
Going into adulthood, after college and entering HR, I always felt unsettled. I was working for someone else, and even though I was good at it, something always felt unsatisfied — like I was craving more growth, more purpose. Before Cre8, I tried a few side hustles to fill that gap. I was a career coach for a season, helping people discover their passion and purpose, and I even wrote a devotional book that I sold on Amazon. I also got curious about whether selling products would feel different than selling services, so I started an all-natural body butter brand called Asili Skin. I still make that body butter today — it’s the only thing I use.
That season of feeling unsettled actually triggered a post-graduation self-discovery period for me. I got closer to God and learned more about myself — my trauma, my triggers, the things I needed to work on, and my passion and purpose. It was through that journey that I discovered I was meant to be an entrepreneur. I knew somewhere down the line I’d be a full-time business owner — I just didn’t know when. Little did I know that a situation the enemy meant to bring me down, God used to raise me into exactly who He meant for me to be.
