Check Out Christopher Turner’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christopher Turner.

Hi Christopher, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I used to work out often as a teen and young adult, but I got to a point in my life where life started doing it’s thing. I picked up some unhealthy habits, stopped working out, reached nearly 300 pounds, and ended up on high blood pressure medicine for about six years. It got to the point where I was having chest pains and had to see a heart specialist, who told me the blood pressure was starting to damage my heart.

Although both sides of my family struggle with high blood pressure and diabetes, I knew that everything going on with me I was doing to myself. That’s when I decided to take my life back.

I changed my eating habits and started right where I was, at home. I didn’t have any equipment or machines. All I had was my home, my family, and my why. I started doing bodyweight exercises right in my living room. During this time, my wife was also on her own fitness journey. We started working out together, going on regular walks, and motivating and supporting each other. Being consistent and determined, I ended up losing 80+ pounds and was officially taken off my medication.

Later, I became a fitness director for a big commercial gym because I wanted to help people on their health journeys. I knew what fitness did for me. I knew what it felt like to lose myself, and I knew what it took to get my life back, get off the meds, and feel stronger than I ever have.

But while working there, I kept hearing the exact same story over and over from people coming in. They told me how uncomfortable, out of place, watched, and intimidated they felt. They didn’t know what they were doing and were terrified of being judged. Hearing that from so many people sat heavy on my heart.

I kept thinking, I wish they had what I had when I started. Why can’t they have a safe, supportive space with family standing beside them, motivating them?

Then I decided: Yes, they can. And I’m going to give it to them.

That was the moment Welcome Home Gym was born.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely not smooth at all, it’s been a continuous test of faith and discipline.

The first struggle was fighting myself. When you’re overweight, having chest pains, dealing with high blood pressure and heart issues, the mental weight is heavier than the physical weight. Having to break years of bad habits and pushing to show up for myself every day when I was tired and sore was a huge battle. I just had to remember my *why* to push through.

Then came the struggle of stepping out on faith to launch “Welcome Home Gym”

Building a fitness business that intentionally rejects the typical commercial gym model isn’t easy. Big-box gyms rely on thousands of people paying memberships and never showing up. Our model is the exact opposite, we want you here, we want to know your name, and we hold you accountable. Trying to build a space that feels like family, while battling the costs, logistics, and noise of the fitness industry, brought its own set of challenges.

There are times when funding is tight, exhaustion kicks in, and the fear of failure tries to creep back. But every single time I feel that weight, I think about the person sitting on their couch scared to step foot into a gym, feeling hopeless about their health, or just ready to get off the meds and feel healthy, just like I used to. That reminds me that this isn’t just a business for me; it’s a mission. The road hasn’t been easy, but every bump along the way is necessary to build the strength needed to help others rebuild theirs.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
At my core, I’m a creator and a coach. My professional and personal life are built around the same thing: taking raw emotion, personal struggle, and real life, and turning it into something that heals and empowers people.

On the fitness side, I specialize in helping everyday people take their health and life back without feeling intimidated. Having walked through my own health struggles weighing nearly 300 pounds and dealing with high blood pressure, I specialize in guiding the person who feels lost, out of place, or judged in big commercial gyms. At Welcome Home Gym, we don’t treat people like membership numbers; we treat them like family.

On the personal and creative side, music is a massive part of who I am. Music is about rhythm, discipline, soul, and honesty. Whether i’m writing, or creating, I put the same passion into my music that I put into helping someone rebuild their health.

What sets me apart, and what I’m known for is authenticity. I don’t pretend to be perfect. When you listen to my music or walk through the doors of my gym, you’re getting the real me: someone who has been in the mud, fought through it, and uses every gift I have to inspire others to do the same.

I’m most proud of seeing people transform mentally and physically or regain their confidence, and realize they matter. Being able to express myself through music while simultaneously building a safe haven where people can save their own lives.

What does success mean to you?
I define success by impact. Success is when someone who came to me terrified, overwhelmed, and carrying health issues walks through the doors of Welcome Home Gym and realizes, “I can actually do this.” It’s seeing a member get the news from their doctor that they no longer need high blood pressure medication. It’s watching someone who feels invisible or judged gain the confidence to take control of their life again.

On a personal level, success is living out my purpose, using my testimony, my fitness knowledge, and my music to connect with people and leave them better than I found them. If I can help one person realize they aren’t stuck, help one family keep their loved one healthy, or make someone feel like they finally found a place where they belong, that’s success. Everything else is just extra.
