Hi BAKER, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Hello Beautiful Creatures! Baker here.
I’m a Memphis-based creative, blending the worlds of Cosplay, Painting, and intricate Wire Crown Designs. With each styled look, brushstroke and crafted piece, I aim to breathe life into imagination. Pursuing my dream of turning passion into profession as a cosplayer and artist.
My journey began in childhood through a passion for coloring and design, I loved the thick outlines in my favorite Strawberry Shortcake and Princess coloring books. Painting abstract designs on my siblings’ and my own clothing became a favorite pastime.
In 2020, a peer requested that I host a Sunflower paint party for her birthday, followed by her daughter’s celebration a few months later. After hosting my first two events, I began selling my work at conventions, and years later, I have just held my very first solo paint party as I continue on this rewarding path.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I’ll say it’s a smooth roller-coaster & I’m here for the adrenaline. Like any business, there are inevitable ups and downs, but overall, I would not choose any other path. I have learned a great deal on this journey, and I can say that I have experienced more ups than setbacks and met a lot of beautiful gems along the way.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am an acrylic painter, cosplayer, wire crown designer, and host, specializing in nostalgic cartoons, fantasy, and anime-themed art.
As a cosplayer, my focus lies in horror, whimsical, and fashionable anime aesthetics. I’ve developed a project titled the Southern Anime Series, which reimagines anime male characters as whimsical southern belles.
As a host, I operate StudioByBaker, where I curate themed paint parties and art expos designed to provide a peaceful environment for creatives and art enthusiasts to connect.
Additionally, as one-third of The Ramen Socialites, I help facilitate raves, watch parties, and game nights that foster a safe space for creatives throughout the Mid-South area.
I truly enjoy sharing my imagination and talents with such a positive community. I thoroughly enjoy both teaching and hosting, and it has been a pleasure to engage with individuals who are consistently polite and enthusiastic about upcoming events.
My attention to detail distinguishes my work, ensuring that every event, painting, crown, and cosplay creation remains truly special.
What makes you happy?
It brings me happiness to be free to express myself at this moment. Doing what I love, dressing up, building a community, and being around like-minded individuals warms my heart.
There is genuine joy in the freedom to create and have one’s community receive it without judgment.
