Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Holmes.
Hi Taylor, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Well, I had a love for nails from a very young age.
After discovering that nail school was a thing, I graduated from high school and soon enrolled in school and began my journey.
In Tennessee, we need 600 hours to become licensed by state. During my enrollment, due to some unfortunate events with the school, I had to drop out at 500 HOURS. This event devastated me, but I stayed focused on my goal. A year or so later, I found another school and enrolled again. ,Six months later, I had completed the program and became licensed in 2016.
Some time later, my professional career was going ok. I was providing traditional nail services and had been working in various salons. However, I had become a bit bored ,because the world of nails had become rather repetitive. It was always the same old acrylic nails, same demanding clientele, same manicures, so I needed a change. I had known for a while that i was good at pedicures, but hadnt fully tapped into the skill exclusively. I knew that our feet are our foundation. So, I began to take a interest in the feet.
A short time later, a friend suggested that I apply at this podiatry office. I didnt know what to expect, but I was curious. So i applied, and got hired on the spot.
From there, my world in nails was flipped and I began my calling in the nail industry. I had found something that never got boring, that was always changing, and I was filling the needs of the people who needed it. That felt amazing to me.
At the podiatry office, I was put in a salon space to provide nail services. This tasked me with curating the services, creating the ambiance, providing the expertise in pedicuring, and building a great clientele. I loved the experience of working along side the doctor to learn things i’d had never seen or knew before. I was observing things that made me appreciate foot care even more, and this job became more interesting as the days went by.
Now, im never idle, so even on the job i would always research. Upon some of this research, I was introduced to the wonderful sub- Industry in the nail world,- medical pedicuring. And..of course I ate it up. I learned as much a I could and learned everything neccessary to perform my job very well. It was from there, that I had found my pathway and who I wanted to be- a medical pedicurist.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
As I mentioned before, getting kicked out of school earlier on was tough. I had just gotten started…. I had almost forgotten about that ,because it happened so long ago. However, I count that. It made a difference. It was just a road block.
Of course, when I began the niche of medical pedicuring. I had to introduce a whole new world to people. People who were used to the normal “traditional” way. It took some trials and error, belief, and lots of confidence. Not everyone took to the waterless approach., they didnt get it. But, I stuck in there and out came something amazing!
I opened my first salon in 2021! Pedikhemistry Foot Lab & Essentials had made it’s debut! I had built a brand , technique and a reputation from the ground up. I wouldn’t trade that experience. Thise years were easily some of the best years I’ve ever experienced in my career.
Unfortunately, my beautiful suite, after three years, closed its doors! Due to unforseen health problems i had to step away. This threw me for a loop. I was really hurt.
Today, I’ ve been on furlough for about two years, and now.. im picking up and moving forward! I’ve had to adjust. Navigatong health problems os npt for the weak. A day is a win when I can move and be productive. I’m adjusting and working around my health. Comfort, sustainability and low stress are priorities now. I’m not broken, just bent. ♡ Im ok!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a state licensed nail technician with medical nail tech and advanced nail tech certifications. Ive chosen to put my artistic abilities to use under these certifications.
I specialize in providing specialty, medically aligned, non invasive, corrective footcare procedures to the chronically ill, compromised and health conscious community. My mission is to Heel the Sole.
I partner with health providers and podiatrists around the city and implement a referral relationship with them. This is to ensure that my clients, and theirs, have the best chance of healthy feet by having a team of experts to support each client as they embark on their sacred footcare journey.
In all my services, I use quality products and advanced techniques custom to each client. No pedicure is ever exactly the same. I keep up to date with the latest techniques in the wonderful world of footcare, to ensure my clients are always in the know.
I, then, teach my clients how and what to use to maximum their results.
What sets me apart most from the competition is my style, creativeness, overall passion and charisma for what I do.
I take a plain pedicure and make it a full body experience- hence the name, The Pedikhemist. Each technique and product in any service is there intentionally. Every file, deimpaction, nail debulk, every part of the pedicure has been well thought out to achieve maximum results for the client. Services are my canvases that I create.
I love my industry as a WHOLE. So, I immerse myself in learning about all things nails, and I then pull from what I’ve learned and incorporate it into my specialty.
Although my specialty is clinical, my setting is private, intimate and exclusive. Its always been a one on one kind of vibe in my lab. I love creating an oasis for my clients that see me. I hold nothing back from them. This always gives my clients a one of a kind experience.
I am premium priced, but this helps me maintain my level of creative, exclusiveness, and ability to provide the best products and techniques available for my clients through continual education.
I never stop learning. It is power. I use this power to be super for my people. I am honored to be their footcare expert. This pushes me to keep up what im doing and to educate the next generation with the same drive, love, and care.
I’m really proud of being your Onyfix specialist in the area -exclusively- at the moment. I love this so much! It has been such a gamechanger for me and my clients. I knew years ago while researching at the podiatry office, that I had to have it. Eventually, I went and got it, and It has been such a great experience!
The ONYFIX is a FDA cleared solution to prevent ingrown nails and prevent surgery. This can be a permanent solution ,and allows the client to experience correction naturally through a ceramic brace alignment without pressure, pain, pulling, or change of routine. I mean, Who wouldnt want that?
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
Well? Right now, to be honest im in a shifting stage in my career. As stated earlier, due to my health, I had to take a step back, and now im able to pick up and keep moving.
Now, I am relaunching slowly, but steady. I’m PLANNING, SHIFTING, RESEARCHING and SETTING IN STONE. So, I do have my plans for Pedikhemistry. BELIEVE ME, they are great. For the moment though, that will stay between me and my journal for now. I will just say, catch me while you can, because, later down the line, It may be too late.
What i can say is, Im excited to teach and educate the next generation! We, medical nail techs, are very much needed and in demand. So, why not continue a great thing?
