Today we’d like to introduce you to Porsha Parks.
Hi Porsha, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
“I started BOLD Athletics because I saw a heartbreaking trend in youth volleyball: the game was becoming entirely about budget rather than talent or potential. So many kids were being priced out of playing at a highly competitive level, and I wanted to change that. My goal was simple but ambitious—to level the playing field by creating a space free of club politics, but heavily focused on elite development, regardless of a family’s financial situation.
When we launched, our core mission was to provide top-tier training and services while keeping the sport affordable. We intentionally built BOLD to be a place for the underdogs. We actually love taking in athletes that other organizations might deem ‘too far behind’ or kids who have previously been cut from teams. We thrive on bridging that gap, developing their skills, and watching them confidently take up space on their school teams. Getting to where we are today took a lot of resilience, but our focus has never wavered: we put athlete development first, ensure youth sports don’t price out passionate kids, and ultimately work to help our athletes secure college scholarships at the end of their journey. At BOLD, no athlete is left behind.”
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
“It has been anything but a smooth road. To be honest, it’s been obstacle after obstacle. When you set out to be a disruptor in youth sports and challenge the traditional, budget-driven model, you inevitably face resistance. We started seeing pushback not just from established organizations protective of their business models, but also navigating the shift in dynamics once our athletes developed and started getting major attention. It often turns into a tug-of-war for youth athletes—a game of politics and recruiting that we never signed up for. But our response has always been simple: we refuse to play that game. Instead, we stay on the front lines, tuning out the noise and putting our energy entirely into the athletes and parents who truly believe in the developmental work we’re doing.”
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
“We are Collierville’s premier destination for elite youth volleyball and holistic athletic training. Our name says it all: Built On Legendary Dreams. We specialize in taking athletes of all levels—especially those who have been overlooked or priced out of other clubs—and developing them into standout competitors.
We stand completely apart from the traditional club model. Not only are we home to the only Boys Volleyball program in our region, but our athletes receive in-house strength and conditioning, college recruiting mentorship, and even guidance on navigating things like NIL and NCAA compliance. We aren’t just creating great volleyball players; we are creating educated, well-rounded student-athletes.
What am I most proud of? The culture we’ve built over the years. We recently received the AVCA Diversity Award, which speaks to our core mission of fostering an inclusive, mentally resilient community. I want readers to know that at BOLD Athletics, your budget doesn’t determine your potential. If you have the heart and the dedication, we will give you the elite tools to become legendary.”
What were you like growing up?
“I was fiercely competitive from day one. Growing up in Alabama, I played both volleyball and basketball at a high level, and honestly, I treated everything like a competition. Personality-wise, I was driven, stubborn in the best way possible, and completely relentless. I developed a ‘refuse to lose’ mentality very early on. It wasn’t just about beating the other team; it was about never accepting mediocrity in my own performance. If a drill felt too hard or I fell short, I would put my head down and work my tail off until I conquered it. That childhood resilience shaped my entire worldview. It’s the reason I relate so heavily to the gritty, underdog athletes we develop at BOLD.”
