Today we’d like to introduce you to Tianna Carter.
Hi Tianna, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’ve always wanted to create content and have been on Instagram since high school, but I really started taking it seriously in 2020 during lockdown. I had nothing but time and the four walls of my room, so I started posting every day on TikTok and Instagram, experimenting with makeup, style and different types of content. I went from K-pop TikTok and cosplay to fashion-forward videos, and over the years, my content has continued to evolve as I discovered new interests and creative directions.
After graduating from university, I decided to get serious about content creation again since I had more time to dedicate to it. That’s when I started creating more localized content and vlogging my experiences around Memphis. I didn’t realize how much that would open doors for me. I landed my first brand collaboration, attended my first brand event and began receiving partnership inquiries from local businesses. It felt natural because I was already exploring the city, trying new things and sharing my experiences online. What started as a way to express myself creatively in my bedroom has grown into an opportunity to tell stories, connect with my community and show people a different side of Memphis through my own perspective.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t always been a smooth road. Between mental health struggles, losing family members and navigating life in general, there were times when creating content felt like the last thing I had the energy for. I was also balancing working full-time while attending university full-time, which made it difficult to show up consistently and create the way I wanted to.
During my last year of university, I barely posted at all. I started questioning whether content creation was something I could realistically continue doing, and I seriously considered giving it up. Eventually, I took a much needed break and allowed myself the space to focus on other areas of my life. When I returned, I did so slowly and on my own terms, rather than forcing myself to create before I was ready. Looking back, that experience taught me that growth doesn’t always mean constantly pushing forward. Sometimes, it means giving yourself grace, taking a step back and trusting that you can find your way back to something you love.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m currently navigating that stage of post-grad life where I’m asking myself, “What am I doing with my life?” I have a bachelor’s degree in health science and, like many people, I’ve changed my mind about my career path a few times. I’m still figuring out what that next chapter looks like, but in the meantime, content creation has become an exciting avenue for me to explore my creativity and build something of my own. I’m grateful to have maintained a job with great benefits while figuring things out, especially in this economy, and I’m even more grateful that something I’ve spent years doing simply because I loved it is finally starting to pay off.
Through my social media, I’m known for my food reviews, local event coverage and sharing experiences around Memphis. I’m a girl who genuinely loves good food, getting dressed up and experiencing everything my city has to offer, so creating content around those things feels natural to me. What sets me apart is that I’m not just showing people where to go or what to eat. I’m sharing my perspective as a young Black woman exploring her city and finding ways to romanticize everyday life. I want people to feel like they’re experiencing these moments alongside me and feel inspired to get out, try something new and appreciate what’s right in their own backyard. What I’m most proud of is that after years of creating through different seasons of my life, I’m finally building relationships with brands I’ve admired for years and turning my passion into real opportunities. It’s a reminder that even when I haven’t had everything figured out, the work I’ve put into something I love hasn’t been for nothing.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
Happiness and stability matter most to me because I want to build a life that feels good to live, not just one that looks good from the outside. I want to feel secure in my future while still making room for the things that bring me joy, whether that’s creating content, traveling or experiencing new things. Ultimately, I want a life where I can feel fulfilled, enjoy the little moments and define success on my own terms.
