Today we’d like to introduce you to JessicaVictoria Steele.
Hi JessicaVictoria , can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
When I was born, my long fingers were noticeable, so my parents said I would play guitar like my dad. Daddy would let my sister and me play concert with his musical equipment. I would sing in the mirror and make up my own songs for hours. Playing concert with my sister was my favorite pastime. However, when I saw the cello at 10 years old, I fell in love. I attended the performing arts high school Overton High School in Memphis, Tennessee. I studied French and music at Spelman College. During Junior year, I auditioned to study abroad at École normale de musique à Paris Alfred Cortot. After college I have had a plethora of performances, including performing at a Grizzlies vs. Lakers half-time show with the Gary Escoe Band. After relocating to Atlanta in 2011, I entered the acting and modeling arena. The arts are truly my soul. I feel as if I am breathing when I play the cello, displaying my soul when modeling, and engaging in the most effective therapy when acting.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Often people do not want pay musicians what they are worth. They don’t consider paying for sheet music, practice time, and equipment. In regards to acting, many productions lose funding after casting their actors. In the modeling world, they don’t want to pay models at all.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a fluent French and Spanish speaker. My favorite genre of music is Negro Spirituals. I am working on my own visual album featuring popular negro spirituals. I am, also working on my own shows, that will combine my linguistic, musical, acting, educational and real estate skills and knowledge.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
My parents are my first supporters. My dad bought my first cello. The day I called to tell him I needed a bigger sized instrument, was the same day daddy called to say the instrument was paid for. He did not hesitate to get me a new cello. My mother sat through me practicing and took me to rehearsals. They both cheered for me throughout elementary, middle and high school concerts. I was, also further developed with Conductor David Robinson with his Sin-Fonia Still Waters Orchestra in Atlanta, Georgia.
