Today we’d like to introduce you to Tina Obeid.
Hi Tina, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Well, my story began the day I fell in love with hair. I come from a humble background raised by a single mom with 5 other siblings. She raised us up teaching us to love and respect ourselves and others. It wasn’t easy growing up where I came from.
Either you make it out or didn’t make it at all and I was always very determined. After losing my mom at 19 years old, I had a wake up call. Hurt and confused, I had to make it some way. She taught me to survive and stay prayed up. Two kids later, a lot of failed jobs, in and out of college I discovered hair school.
I was always talented in hair but thought I would be a nurse someday. Man, was I wrong. Hair was my calling and saved me and helped me survive. I never knew how far the world of hair would take me and by my surprise, it paid the bills. Of course, I had help along the way from a host of family and friends who helped encourage me, babysit my kids so I could work, mentor me and keep me on my toes. Times are hard in this business because there are busy days and slow days, but the love of hair keeps me motivated. I love doing hair! I love making people look and feel beautiful.
I’m grateful for all those who have supported my journey in this business. My wonderful husband, 3 kids, siblings, cousins, and in-laws. I can’t forget the many wonderful friends I’ve met along the way giving me great opportunities to shine and be me. Thanks to all my clients and hair models who make my job so much more amazing. I love what I do and am truly blessed and thankful I found hair.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road was different, not easy but I took one day at a time and made it through. It’s great to do what you love and love what you do. It makes life so awesome!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am professionally known as Tina Natural Hair Diva. I stand 4’9 but big in ideas and personality. I am a Cosmetologist and I specialize in natural hair. Also, I am a Platform Artist who does hair shows locally and travels. My other talent is makeup. I sell several different types of skincare and makeup. I am a girly girl and don’t like to go anywhere without my face on. I love how creative you can be with makeup and hair. I constantly change my looks and hairstyles. It’s the diva in me.
I am proud of all the hair shows I’ve done. My favorite one so far is Chews’s Hairshow in Lake Charles, LA where my models and I performed as characters from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory with a little twist of course. We worked so hard from dance rehearsal to costumes. It was so fun!
I would say I’m different from other hairstylists because of how I think and my creative ideas. There is a strategy. I have the creativity and the team of people who help make it all come alive. Then voila a hair show is born. My team is everything. They make it all happen without them I wouldn’t be where I am today.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
I work with anybody who wants to change the world by beautifying it. I love giving back and love helping others. Collaborating is even great. Just call me and we can team up and make magic happen. I’ve worked with several great people locally like Kasey Price Music Engineer, Ivana Johnson M.U.A, Davina Moten Fashion Designer of Uniqueinc2, Jasmon Tate Model/ Nail Tech, Velvet Clark of St. Louis, Mo Hairstylist/Wordsmith/Model, Wesley Stewart Choreographer, Jasina Tate Choreographer.
