Exploring Life & Business with Evita Johnson of Evita J. Esthetics and PAZ Wellness Spa

Today we’d like to introduce you to Evita Johnson.

Hi Evita, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My story- growing up I always knew I wanted to own my own business. My family had a cleaning business, but then they close it down. However, my grandmother had a clothing store. I watched her, my mom, and my uncle style the church women. So, I guess you can say it was in my blood, lol.

I remember attending New Wave Hair Academy and I didn’t like it! I had only been there two days. I remember walking out of the enrollment offices and seeing the aesthetic door open… I asked the administrator “what type of services do they do?”

A year later, I enrolled in The Beauty Institute. I have an amazing support system and I’m very grateful. My husband not only supports but believes in my business just as much as I do! I remember applying at different spas and not getting hired. They wanted to know how many clients I already had. I will never forget in, 2010 I was interviewed by Ms. Dewitt. Her son and daughter-in-law owned the spa. I was so excited! I remember it like it was yesterday. It was on my husband’s birthday. I couldn’t wait to tell him.

Here’s the thing, I’ve never kept a job longer than a year. It’s not in me. I knew what I wanted, and working for someone wasn’t for me. So, my hat goes off to everyone that stayed on a job longer than a year. The mental stress of high-demanding jobs and jobs, in general, can be draining. But! I’m in a place now where I’m extremely happy and honored to be where I am. It hasn’t been easy, I wanted to give up, but I knew GIVING up on my dreams wasn’t an option.

So, to anyone that’s wanting to go to higher heights, never limit yourself. Seek God for guidance, plan, and execute!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Oh, no! If it was a smooth road, I don’t want it! For me, if something I’m working on doesn’t bring challenges- I don’t feel it’s a tough enough task. The things I know now, I wish I knew back then.

I didn’t know anything about branding, marketing, or money management. What I knew how to do was get people in the door and keep them. I learned a lot from, Candace Holyfield, I will never forget my first conversation with her. She was conducting spa calls. Spa calls allow you to tell her what you do and what you’re providing and gives you a plan to execute! That was in 2017.

The things I’ve learned since then… was AMAZING!
