Hi Dorcas, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
Cooking and catering have always been huge parts of my life. My mother owned a catering business when I was a child, and my sisters and I worked closely with her. I wrote her first contract!
She taught me quite a bit of what I know about food, in addition to many years spent watching food be prepared and studying recipes. At the end of 2018, the government had a long shutdown, so as an employee with them, I was left with no income. Turning to my roots, I began to offer meal prep services, focusing on low-carb and Keto options.
The response was life-changing! I decided to explore catering and started offering catering services for weddings and local events. Today my team and I are booked solid every weekend! Catering is fast-paced and chaotic, but I love it! I love being a vendor and people enjoying my recipes, spice blends, and love that I pour into everything that leaves our kitchen.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Owning and operating a catering business has been far from smooth! As with so many other businesses, the pandemic caused a huge issue when offices shut down and working professionals were sent home. Our meal prep clientele was now at home and able to prepare their own meals, which caused them to no longer seek our services. Catering was a pivot for us but worked out successfully and I’m grateful for the experience.

Dishing with Dorcas, LLC. is a full-time catering and private dining company based out of Memphis, TN. Providing food services since 2018, we believe that every occasion should be celebrated to the fullest! Life is to be enjoyed and every moment should be cherished. We make working with us a seamless experience!
After we receive your catering questionnaire, our teams get right to work on confirming a menu, setting up a tasting, going over levels of service and theme, and then gathering everything needed to make your food display attractive. We are most known for our high level of customer service and our delicious food, such as our famous Cajun Shrimp & Grits or juicy fried chicken wings.
I want readers to know that the food industry is a very tough one, and we do our best to make things as perfect as possible. Always be gentle and kind to small business owners and respect the hard work that goes unseen behind the scenes to make customers happy and satisfied.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
I define success as finding joy in what you do, no matter what the outcome is. I have so much gratitude that I am able to operate a business by using a skill that I love and enjoy. Being paid for it is just the cherry on top!
Creating something from the ground up is a humbling, yet empowering experience because I birthed an idea and I am watching it grow into more than I could have ever imagined.
