Today we’d like to introduce you to Neyanna Williamson.
Hi Neyanna, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started doing hair in 7th grade my mom was putting bows in my hair and I started to like boys, so I started trying to do it myself in the bathroom. Lol. My babysitter was my cousin who used to do hair and likes to travel.
She sparked the love that is still with me almost 20 years later. since then I’ve dibbled and dabbled never really taking it seriously. In 2016, my then-boyfriend passed away suddenly in a car accident. I was a stay-at-home girlfriend after he left, I needed to support myself to keep from having to go back to my mom’s house so I picked my comb and shears back up and I haven’t stopped since then.
Five years later, I’ve managed to graduate from beauty school, open my first salon in 2019. In 2020 mist the pandemic, I was blessed with a storefront location. Unknowing how I was going to staff the location, I took the challenge on and I’m still here today
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road has been as challenging. being a first-generation business owner not knowing anything other than I love what I do I picked myself up by the bootstraps and proceeded. During the journey, I ran into learning to manage my time as well as my finances as well as learning to brand myself
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Knottyheadz salon and spa?
Knottyheadz salon and spa is a natural hair salon geared towards locs. It was founded by me in my living room a product of grief later turned into more than I could ever imagine. I myself can do all types of hair but I specialize now in locs, loc extensions, and growing your hair, I think what sets me and my staff from others is our environment and location.
We strive to be a salon that serves as a recharge space spiritually. Not only are we going to service your hair but we give you the space to take off your amour and just be. Catch a nap, laugh, smile, cry, and all while doing your hair to send you back into the world as your best self prepared to face whatever you’re going through in life. My biggest accomplishment brand-wise would be my product line, business coaching, and training classes if you’d like to learn more about locs.
Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My favorite childhood memories are of me playing outside like a true 90s baby. I remember coming in covered in dirt from playing with my brother and his friends, I would do everything unladylike and I hated getting my hair done.
I remember I told my aunt I wouldn’t come back again because she washed my hair one time. Lol. I just think it’s ironic the same child is now touching anybody’s hair who will sit down in my chair. Along with teaching them how to properly care for their hair at home and in a salon setting.
