Hi Mercedes, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
Last year, in the midst of a pandemic, I decided to step out on faith and launch my very first business named “Unrelenting Pursuit.” Unrelenting Pursuit (UP) is a professional development business designed to be your one-stop-shop for career advice. If someone asked me to describe myself I would say that I am caring, fun, adventurous. and passionate. My passion for others is why I pursued a Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources.

After obtaining my Master’s degree and 5+ years of hands-on experience I felt I could do more to not just help people land a job but to position them for a career they are passionate about. I am an HR Professional that thrives in an environment where I am able to help people not just professionally, but personally as well. I am true ‘Not your average HR Bae.’ Unrelenting Pursuit eventually branched off into the world of YouTube, which is what resulted in me owning my very first camera. After a while of me being in front of the lens, I decided to move behind it and capture others as well. That shift is what birthed “Shēk Captures.” Shēk Captures specializes in portraits (single, family, and couple), as well as event photography.

As I’ve grown older, I’ve chosen not to live my life in a box. I now view life with a very wide lens. I am open to learning new things, trying new experiences, and doing all things that make me happy. When I graduated high school and ventured on to college I presumed, at that time, that I needed to pick a career that I could see myself doing for the rest of my life and do that. Now, five years post-graduation, I’ve realized that my life is not just one career.

I now have a passion for being happy, doing everything that makes me happy, and seeing others happy as well. So, whether I am at my 9 to 5 offering you a job, working with Unrelenting Pursuit to create your roadmap for that job, or capturing you doing it with Shēk Captures. All these things embody the different facets of me and are a part of my beautiful journey.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Smooth? Would it be like it was smooth? Of course not! Life always throws traffic in your perfect plan. At first, you may sit through traffic and get upset about being late. Then you eventually learn the back streets, the side roads, and how to calculate adequate times to leave to avoid delays. I’ve had my fair share of struggles along this journey.

I’ve cried, had setbacks, had long nights, lost money, and more. But I don’t regret any of those experiences. Those experiences have gotten me here, to this point. I know for a fact that there will be more struggles along the way, but I embrace them with open arms because I know the blessing on the other end is worth the lesson.

Unrelenting Pursuit specializes in career development. Which includes interview prep, professional writing services, and 1-on-1 personal development consultations. Shēk Captures specializes in portraits (single, family, and couple), and event photography. I am most proud of everything that I’ve become. I am a multifaceted woman. A woman that does not specialize in one niche, but instead takes all of her unique qualities and turns them into profits.

What sets me apart from others is my ability to put myself in the client’s shoes. If you book me to write your resume I act as if I am the client and I am trying to land my next job. I give my all to see them succeed in life, just as I would want someone to do for me.

Even if you book me for a shoot, I do whatever it takes to make your vision a reality. I am a compassionate and loving individual, and I portray that in everything I do.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk-taking?
I believe that every day is a risk. Every day that you wake up, step foot out of your household, and into the world, you are taking a risk.

So many things can happen, but do you allow those known risks to stop you from taking on life one day at a time? Of course not! This is why health, car, and life insurances are such thriving businesses. *laughing*

I take a risk on myself every day. I will never know what I am capable of if I don’t step out on faith to try it. If I fall, so what. I pick myself up and try a different route the next time. You will never see the beauty at the top of the mountain if you choose to stay on the ground.
