Today we’d like to introduce you to Myeisha Nichols.
Hi Myeisha, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve enjoyed photography for years. Friends and family have always asked me to do photoshoots so I decided to start my business. In 2018, I moved to Memphis from Arkansas with the hopes of growing Natrual Xpressions. It took a while to grow my clientele, so often I would still have to travel to Arkansas to service clients.
Over the past few years, I started doing photoshoots for friends here in the city. Eventually, with the help of social media and recommendations, I was able to increase my Memphis clientele. 2021 so far has been an amazing year for me.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I’ve had some struggles along the way. The biggest obstacle has been me stepping out of my shell and being more confident in my skills. During the covid lockdown, I invested in new techniques and equipment. I also set sales goals and launched a new website. I really began to challenge myself.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I like to call myself a storyteller. I’ve always been creative. With photography, I can create a space and capture emotions with my lens. I am a makeup artist as well and when people are able to get their makeup done and have a photoshoot by me they feel like models.
What sets me apart from others is that I create a luxurious experience for my clients. I am most proud of the reactions when they receive their photos. I love scrolling social media and seeing my work being shared.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters most to me is the freedom to create a safe space for people. Often in my line of work people don’t feel as confident as they would like to be. In doing this, I have created a safe space for myself as well. When I changed my mindset positive things started to happen for me.
