Today we’d like to introduce you to Clyde Sims, Jr.
Hi Clyde, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My story starts off pretty traditionally, especially in the professional world. I attended Mississippi Valley State University (Computer Science; 2013), and after pursuing a career in the tech field. Along the way, I picked up a camera around 2014.
My career took me to a few places around the Midwest but ultimately landed me in Indianapolis(2016). Indianapolis is where I first shot in a studio, and where I started to take photography seriously. It quickly turned from a hobby, into a part-time job.
In 2018, I decided to move back to the Memphis area. This is after being let go from my salary-paying job. I had a choice to stay in Indy or move home; I mean I just played the logically safe move lol. By this time, my part-time photography job started to grow even more!
It grew so much that it affected my work at this new gig I got back in Memphis. Of course, I got fired from that job. I literally walked out of that job and leaned on my talent. I never looked back from there!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I would say the road was cool, but I definitely had some potholes to avoid. The biggest struggle has been knowing when to ask for help. Running a business really requires a team for sure!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Something most people don’t know is that my full business name is Media And Design Essentials By Glyde. M.A.D.E. I specialize in photography and small promo video clips. I would say my lighting and quality stand out the most for me.
I love to play around with lighting and colors; especially with headshots. Headshots, I feel, are where I show some of my best work. I’m proud of how far my brand has come. Meeting people that have heard of my brand before even meeting me still amazes me every time.
I just want all of the readers to check out my work, and share it with someone that’s in need of some quality photos! I shoot a variety of different sessions ranging from Headshots, Fashion, Birthdays, Weddings, Modeling, Family, Corporate, Boutiques, Sports, etc.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success to me is mastering the full business of what I love to do, then being able to provide opportunities for others to do the same. This expands beyond photography.
