Today we’d like to introduce you to Justin Wise.
Hi Justin, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Growing up in a family that was big into cars I always knew that the automotive industry was one that I wanted to get into. Spending the weekends at car shows, drag racing, or restoring antique vehicles was a common occurrence.
During high school, I always had a fascination with starting my own business. Frequently making flyers and cutting grass for neighbors was the first kickstart to my entrepreneurial spirit.
Out of high school, I attended Southwest Tennesse Community College joining their General Motors Automotive Program which landed me a job with General Motors. After graduating college, I worked for General Motors as a service technician for the following 10 years. During that time, I grew an enjoyment with the detailing side of the automotive industry. Making vehicles look new, and making paint shine like never before. That combined with the thoughts of being an entrepreneur set me on my journey to start Wise Guy’s Detailing.
On the weekends, I started taking a few jobs to get accustomed to the industry, build a brand, and further my skill.
In November of 2015, I attended my first detail training event. After which I returned and took Wise Guy’s Detailing full time. Over the past 5 years, I have continued to grow the business into what it is today.
Training in states around the country like California, Florida, and Georgia with some of the largest and well-known businesses in the industry. We now service many of Memphis’s high-end sports and classic cars. But also run services that take care of boats, daily drivers, ATVs, and more.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
During the growth of the business, there have been plenty of challenges. When you first start a business many people do not warn you of the many hats you will wear, especially in the beginning. Worker, bookkeeper, marketer, etc. And when you take on all these roles you will find your weaknesses and make mistakes.
But through these weaknesses, you find ways to grow yourself and become better which makes you more ready to tackle the next challenge.
We’ve been impressed with Wise Guy’s Detailing, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We offer high-end auto detailing specializing in new care preservation, paint correction, and paint protection. We have trained and been certified by some of the most well-known detail businesses around the country such as Shine Supply, Feynlab, and Glassparency.
We are super proud to be the detailed business of choice for the Memphis Classic Chevy Club. No matter the service we are performing or the vehicle we are servicing we strive to provide the utmost quality for each of our clients and will always run our business with integrity.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
Over the next 5-10 years, we look forward to moving into a larger shop in order to provide a more convenient workspace and location for our clients. We will have more mobile units on the roads to provide mobile detailing across the city.
We will be starting up our fleet service which will provide fleet detailing to other local businesses as well.
