Meet Dewann “J Michael” Hall

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dewann “J Michael” Hall.

Hi Dewann, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Hey Everyone, I’m J. Michael. I was born in Memphis, Tn, to be even more accurate North Memphis to be exact. I’m a father to four beautiful girls. Fatherhood has been a journey.  I have always had an infatuation with a camera. I would have to thank my mother for that. She always took pictures of me. Doing some wild action poses, smiling, with family, or candid shots. This was when I developed my love for photography. As I got older, I wanted to continue to capture the fun and memorable moments. Cliche, I know! It’s the truth! I love seeing moments where people are in love, having fun, and living. While pursuing photography, something else in the art grabbed me. I start writing poetry in high school off and on. It wasn’t until I became an adult that I got the courage to perform poetry on stage. From there, the stage and mic had my attention too. A few years into performing someone said I should audition for a stage play production. I land the role and became an actor. 

Today, I have two companies. J. Michael Productions capture and video that “Love and Memorable Moments. High-Life Photography capture “Your High-Life Moments”! Excitement, entertainment, exotic, and luxury are what you get with High Life. For most of my photography career, I have been self-taught. I have gone to school for photography in the past. I recently started back to finish my degree in Digital Photography.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Nothing in life is easy if you want it. My road has had potholes, cracks, and repairs. I knew what I wanted to do as a child. But as we hit adulthood, adult happens. Being a family man before getting my business off the ground was hard. My first concern was my daughters. I had twins when I was 19 so that put a big pause on my plan. My priority was now to take care of them. At this time my support system was 1. She was the one that helped me grow into the man I am today. I was attending college and raising twin daughters. I had to focus on them and not me. I never forgot the plan, I just had to wait till the time was better for me.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I do a hand full of things. I am a professional photographer, actor, and business owner. I love The Arts”. I love being creative.  I have worked on projects with NBC and Cinemax. I’ve done commercials, worked on movie sets, and done a few web series.

I am most proud of being able to do what I love, being able to support my much larger family now, and passing on knowledge to future entrepreneurs, artists, and photography. What sets me apart is I can talk to anyone? I can engage and have a conversation with just about anyone regardless of race or orientation. A lot of people are still blinded by these things. 

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My memory isn’t as sharp as it use to be. But I would have to say just being a kid. There is no favorite memory for me! I would say just being a kid is my favorite memory. Life was easier, No bills, no worries. Playing with friends, playing video games, and not having a care in the world!
