Today we’d like to introduce you to Sierra Dawkins.
Hi Sierra, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I was introduced to the beauty industry at a young age. I sat around my aunts and older cousins while they did their client’s hair, soaking up all the knowledge. I decided to enroll in cosmetology school in 2011.
My journey really started there. Upon completing hair school. I started working in a salon building my clientele and came up with the name Styled by Ce for myself. I decided to become a full-time hairstylist in March of 2013. I began my own hair extension company in 2015. Hair Majesty Extensions is the name.
Throughout my career, I’ve faced many obstacles but I’ve never given up. I am still going strong, learning new techniques and keeping up with the latest styles. Hair is my first love and my passion, I pray to God every day to give me the strength to keep going.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been a smooth road. My biggest struggle was transitioning into social media to promote myself, I was used to word of mouth. So when I started promoting on social media it was hard for me because I didn’t know how to and I wasn’t as confident in the beginning.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Full-time hairstylist. I specialize in healthy hair, extensions, and wig units.
I’m most proud of being called “Growing hands”. I’ve grown so many of clients’ hair and they now have hair down their back. They always tell me “You made my hair grow.” That’s what I’m most proud of.
What sets me apart from others is that I care. Not saying other stylists don’t care. But I take care of my client’s hair like it’s my hair. I’m going to make sure they are knowledgeable about any style they want and let them know if we can or cannot achieve the style they desire.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Never give up. Practice, practice, practice. Everything gets better with time. Pray over your hands and yourself before you start every client. And most of all believe in yourself!
