Today we’d like to introduce you to Kendra Crawford.
Hi Kendra, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
Making truffles started out as a fundraiser for a mission trip to Santiago, Chile back in 2014.
At that time, I didn’t even consider making truffles on a permanent basis. In 2015, my oldest son needed funds to go to Japan and I started making truffles again to fund that trip. During this time, many donators assumed that I was a business, so I decided to make it official in 2015 by taking the first step to obtaining a business license. The name comes from my maiden name “Moore” and clients always ask for “more”.
I made truffles on and off for several years. In 2021, I decided to be more consistent with my business and decided to lease a commercial kitchen. Once I got licensed, that opened doors to retail, in which our truffles are in four markets in Memphis. Moore Truffles specializes in chocolate truffles; however, I’ve expanded my menu to include truffle pops, chocolate caramel apples, and strawberries just to name a few.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
This journey definitely has not been an easy one. Trying to figure out your target market, pricing, supplies, how I wanted to present my products… was a constant battle. Also, realizing that I wanted to cater to events, such as baby showers, weddings, etc., I knew I had to change the look of my treats. I started watching other treat makers on YouTube and Instagram to figure out different techniques and that really helped.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Moore Truffles specializes in chocolate truffles. We have several flavors that we rotate every quarter. All the truffles are cookie-based, hand-rolled, and hand-dipped in delicious chocolate.
I think one of my proudest moments is making it to the Top 100 finalist in the FedEx Small Business Grant contest in 2017. In addition, my children get to experience this journey too. They have seen where Moore Truffles started and hopefully, the business will transition to them.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
I have finally found something that I am truly passionate about. It brings me great joy when someone sends me feedback about how delicious our treats are. I never in a million years thought I would be making chocolate treats. But here I am and I’m enjoying the journey.
Of course, there is MORE to come!
