Today we’d like to introduce you to Kunjal Pathak.
Hi Kunjal, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
While growing up, I was always fascinated by the still pictures as I see them in newspapers, fashion, and travel magazines. I was always intrigued to find out the process of creating them. I liked the way pictures can be used to freeze the moment and tell stories.
Eventually, I bought my first camera started taking portraits of people. I became compelled with being just more than taking a picture, but something that gave off a feeling and a vibe, or told someone’s story, or captured the essence of a moment. Things gradually picked up as I started sharing my work on social media and I started shooting more and more.
This eventually led me to start my own wedding photography company.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There were are a few obstacles along the way.
When I got my first camera in my hand the biggest obstacle was the lack of knowledge about the technical aspect of photography. I started watching YouTube videos, frequently visited online photography forums to understand the technical basics of photography. It took time to understand lighting and how it affected the scene and subject matter that I was photographing. Experience is the best teacher. Once I learned and understood the basics of photography, lack of confidence was the other obstacle that I started facing.
I was not confident in my own abilities. I was intimidated by models or portrait subjects. Knowing that I had to direct them and keep them calm. My confidence increased once I gained more experience. Experience also taught me that the creative side of photography always takes precedence over the technical side of photography and while the technical side of photography is very easy to learn and master, the creative side of photography is life long learning experience.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in Wedding Photography and Wedding film making (Videography).
Photography is more than a passion for me. It brings me so much joy and honor to be able to photograph timeless memories for my clients! I LOVE shooting couples. I LOVE being a part of their love stories and strive to capture their stories in the way they deserve to be told. I emotionally invest in all my clients.
I have a storytelling approach in a photojournalistic style. What I mean is simply that I focus heavily on capturing candid and natural moments. My goal is to document real emotions.
What matters most to you?
The people I love and those who love me; being a good person.
