Today we’d like to introduce you to Rickeya Harris.
Hi Rickeya, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
You know, when I first received an email from Memphis Voyager I thought, “Whaaat? Why would they want to interview me? Why me? Why me?” and was also disgusted with myself for those thoughts because, why not me? Someone out there could really benefit from my story which is fully why I even do what I do is to motivate, encourage, inspire, and make an impact in someone’s life!
Soo, my name is Rickeya and I have been in the fitness industry as a Trainer (Group Fitness and PT) for over 6 years! There have been a variety of classes I’ve taught with the biggest thing being fitness kickboxing for at least 5 years. Throughout this career, I have been extremely confident in knowing I’m really making a difference in so many people’s lives getting them to live a more active and healthier lifestyle.
August 2021 I had my first baby. That has been the biggest transition of life thus far. A lot of things were put on hold including my own fitness and wellness and overall confidence in myself and even more what I can offer other people. Teaching classes and personally helping people on their fitness journey meant everything to me. So now today, I have gained my confidence back in who I am and what I have to offer. I also have so much more of a drive than I have ever had before.
With that being said, this mama here is in the works of getting back to what she loves in her personal endeavors and will be introducing a new fitness class to Memphis in 2022. So everyone is on the lookout for BounceHIIT! Don’t forget that name! More details coming soon as I pop back out. God is cooking us up something pretty major and will ensure you are having a good time while you die a bit on the inside with this workout lol joking but if it’s not challenging you it won’t change you!
Every bit of every day I am working towards making an impact in the fitness community in Memphis, TN.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It definitely has not been a smooth road because most of the struggles came along during my postpartum journey. So things like literally having to make time or even being motivated to work out myself let alone create something for everyone else to stay active have been hard.
Even self-esteem was a struggle which is something I never thought I would struggle with. I have to stay very intentional and disciplined because truthfully most days I am tired. However, sometimes, you must do it even if you are tired. Discipline has to outweigh motivation. That is the only way to push beyond what YOU think you are capable of doing.
I am always reminding myself of my WHY. Those are the things that make you stronger. THAT is what will keep you going!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a Certified Personal Trainer. Helping individuals meet health and fitness goals and overall gain more confidence in themselves and love themselves MORE.
Alongside that, I’m also a Chiropractic Therapy Assistant at Memphis Spine and Sport Chiropractic Rehab. There I help patients improve their overall wellness with rehab exercises, complementing the adjustments, which focuses on strengthening certain muscle groups to gain better stability amongst other therapies.
We are all set apart by just being our unique selves but a lot of people lack authenticity and sincerity. I am always myself in any room and truly care about each and every person I get to work with. Literally my top goal in my role as a trainer and even chiropractic therapy assistant is to make a person feel good about themselves. Feel good about where they are and the action they made today and where they are working towards.
I am most proud of the fact that I am able to balance life as a mom, wife, and fitness professional. Still, very much impacts live on a daily basis all while keeping up with myself too.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
The only advice is to just be yourself in any and every room. I have always been able to get any opportunity I’ve wanted just by simply being myself. Even the positions or opportunities I didn’t get, I have always been myself because if God didn’t see me there, He saw me somewhere else. Always believe in yourself!
