Today we’d like to introduce you to Jose Quintero.
Hi Jose, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My name is Jose Quintero, I’m 27 years old. I was born in Venezuela. I come from a family full of great values and commitment to help others, my dad is a doctor and my mom is a school teacher. Therefore, I grew up with the mentality of helping others and giving the best of me every day.
I always wanted to become a doctor so I could help others have great health. So at the age of 17, I moved to a bigger city to attend medical school in Venezuela, everything was great I was studying to become a doctor and help others. Suddenly in 2014, the political crisis started hitting my country, so in my 4th year in med school, I decided to join The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), I was a supervisor of the Malnutrition Program for children under 5 and pregnant women, political crisis worsen within years bringing starving situations to the poorest communities in my country.
So we decided to protest against the government because of those conditions that were affecting our population. But at that time I did not know that decision was going to cost my dream of becoming a doctor in my country, I got kidnapped and threatened by Maduro regime officers. So in my 5th year of med school, I had to make the hardest choice of my life, I had to leave my dreams and my family back because I wasn’t safe in my country no more, everything that I had worked and studied at that moment, I would have to resign to that in order to be safe.
I moved to Memphis, USA in December 2019 as a Political Asylum seeker, the road hasn’t been easy my family and my dreams were back there in Venezuela and I had to build everything from scratch. I started working as a picker in warehouses, a line cook in a few restaurants, and then pandemic hit, I got unemployed and tried to make some money to pay the bills. Fortunately, my family, my girlfriend, and some amazing people that I had met at that time gave me a hand and helped me at every moment.
I was losing hope and missing my family so much, but they were there with me at every moment. Until one day, a job offer knocked at the door, it was a position as a medical assistant in Memphis it was the closer I cloud get to my life as a medical student in Venezuela. So I took the position, I met great people and developed many skills that I had learned through the years. I also developed management skills and marketing strategies, that helped me get at the position where I am at.
In July 2021, an incredible opportunity came to me at supreme staffing, I started as a front desk and everyday I gave 101%, in less that a month I was promoted as a recruiter so I did my best on every task I was I assigned to do. I was working with incredible people that helped me grow in every aspect of my life, the office work environment was amazing and the company wanted everyone to succeed.
After 2 years in the USA, I had found a place of work that helped me growth and gave me the tools to achieve every task, nowadays it is hard to find companies that want to see their employees succeed on a daily basis and I found that at Supreme. They wanted me to succeed, so a few months later in January 2022 they promoted me as Business Development Manager at a partnership with Elective Staffing, Company that shares the values and the great team work.
At the time I’m writing this article, I am the Business Development Manager at Elective Staffing, in charge of the sales and marketing department across the USA and abroad. I am working with outstanding people and am happy to be where I am at and where I am from. I have to thank my family, girlfriend, friends, and wonderful people I have met all this years.
“It is never too late to achieve your goals, enjoy every opportunity in life. The road is not easy but it is so gratifying once you get there.”
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
English was a challenge at the beginning because is not my native language but everyone helped me learn and understand really fast. Food was another challenge and its something that I really miss from my home country.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am Business Development Manager at Elective Staffing, I am in charge of creating marketing strategies to achieve our goals, develop leads and sales strategies.
I always give 101% in every daily goal. I am an out of the box thinker I always go beyond everything.
I am proud that as an Immigrant with only 2 years in the USA I have achieved a lot. We need to believe in ourselves and go for it. Surrounds yourself with people that want to see you succeed and help them as well and good thing are going to happen.
What do you think about luck?
More than luck I would say that I have learned that we need to be open to enjoy every challenge and all the opportunities that life has to offer to us. Be open to learn from everyone and help others to succeed is the key of personal growth.
Sometimes you are going to fall down so be strong, learn from the situation and always accept the help of others.
