Meet Tish & Darius Clay of Simone Elise Events

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tish & Darius Clay.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
We are Tish and Darius, a husband and wife wedding planning and floral design company. We took on a deep love for weddings while planning our own wedding.

We realized that we both had a knack for focusing on the details, as it came very naturally to us, and wanted to make anyone we came into contact with a smile. We started working together planning and hosting monthly events, as well as annual large-scale celebrations and trips for our church’s couples ministry.

After years of serving in that capacity, and a little while of operating as a sole proprietor (Tish being the person at the forefront of the business), we decided that we would make what we were already doing together official.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
We are a married couple running a business together.

We had to learn to take a similar approach to work through dilemmas in marriage and to work out issues in our business. We had to learn, and on most days, are still learning that the rhythm we have as husband and wife isn’t the same rhythm as business owners.

Portions of the experience have afforded us deeper compassion and relatability to marriage and to our couples.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am the girl who just gets it and he’s the guy’s guy. Because we are a husband-and-wife planning and event design company, you get the luxury of having a team effort towards the creation and execution of your wedding day.

We provide you with something most aren’t able to: A man’s perspective, and someone the groom can relate to; as well as a married couple’s perspective from people who not only know what the end goal is but also have seen a large number of couples get to experience what you are about to experience.

We work in this beautiful love-soaked business together and have even named our company after our girls. Working in both government and corporate settings in the past, both Darius and I have found that “no” is not an option when getting things done and have become savants at figuring issues out.

Due to those experiences and so much more, we are afforded the knowledge, expertise, and keen foresight for all that comes with major life events. We use this unique insight to truly enrich your day. We are passionate about the happiness of our clients, as well as every single detail that leads up to their big day.

We offer planning, with wedding management (a 2-month planning service) and full-service wedding planning options, as well as floral and event design for the wedding day. The services we offer ease worries, such as pulling all the details together, keeping track of what is needed and expected, and being sure you are getting what you really want for your wedding day.

When working with us, you can expect unparalleled teamwork, professionalism, and quality. We provide monthly consultations, vendor search and selection, attendance at vendor meetings, timeline management for both planning and wedding day, budget tracking and assistance, and a long list of other accommodations to help you feel more confident and excited.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
We view risks as a necessity.

It is a part of business, and in most instances, the only way a business can grow. Every purchase and investment into the business may not return a decent ROI, but we look at those as essentials for overall growth. One of the biggest risks I took was leaving an 18-year career to venture into this space I have grown to love so much.

Our hope is that one day it will pay major dividends and we can at least say what we have contributed to this industry has provided us with great joy.
