Today we’d like to introduce you to Lori Knight.
Hi Lori, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
In early 2021, one of my teenagers started having issues before going to school. The pandemic had had her virtual learning for months and then she was thrown back into middle school with masks, very few friends or people she knew very well. One day, when I was dropping her off in the car rider line, I noticed her whole body was shaking.
I was super concerned and asked if she was ok and if she needed to stay home. She insisted on going to school. This happened a few times on the way to school but she was unable to tell me what was wrong and didn’t want to not go to school. Not long after this started. I received a call from the school counselor. She said some things my daughter was saying insinuating that she might be thinking of self-harming herself.
I left my house immediately to go get her. When something like this happens at school, the child has to be mentally evaluated before returning back. Since we were still in a pandemic, the quickest way to be “seen” was a phone evaluation. We had her evaluated that day and the person who evaluated her got back on the phone with me and said she felt that my daughter was not thinking about self-harming but was actually suffering from extreme anxiety.
We had her return to school a day later with the results from the evaluation. Not long after she had been back, I was called again to pick her up, and she was talking about things that were concerning. This happened about 3 times. She would be evaluated, we get the result of extreme anxiety, she returns to school and it happened again. I was feeling helpless.
My daughter couldn’t explain what was going on but she was clearly struggling. I did not want to have to go the pharmaceutical route, but it crossed my mind that I may have to take her somewhere and look into our options. Fortunately, I was chatting with my friend and hairdresser through text and was telling her what was going on. She mentioned her son had gone through something similar and that some holistic products had helped him so much.
Ironically, I had an old friend that had been reaching out about a company he wanted my husband and me to look at. It turned out to be the same company! We were days away from signing a lease for a brick-and-mortar smoothie shop of sorts when all of this entered our lives. My daughter started on the products and had a tremendous turn around that my husband and I started some of the products as well to see what they could do for us.
We were so impressed we decided to talk about the business further. We partnered with the first holistic mental wellness company in the world. We felt this was truly going to transform other lives of people who had similar stories to us; a daughter that was severely anxious, a mom that was working on little sleep from a baby who wasn’t sleeping well, a mom who stayed home but also worked an online boutique that took so many hours away from family during the day and night.
A dad who was burnout from a demanding career that we were worried would send him to an early grave if things didn’t change. It took several months until our brand Fueled by LLC was born. We knew we wanted to have our own company partner with this company and eventually, others that could be a good fit for our clients and potential clients. We have had a vintage camper that my sweet husband purchased as a Christmas present for me two years ago that was to be turned into a mobile boutique.
The boutique was no longer something we wanted to pursue and we’re focusing all of our efforts on our company. My husband left his 18+ year career in HVAC to join me in building our dream. Our dream is to help others with their mental health, to give people more focus, energy, help lower inflammation and level out cortisol in the body to help with a multitude of things that people suffer from today: Mood issues, lack of energy, lack of focus, leaky gut, no motivation, sleep-deprived, etc.
We wanted others to experience the change we have and just feel better. We all know what we need to be doing to have a healthy lifestyle. Eating better and working out. But when you can’t even get out of bed to face the day, it’s going to be near impossible to make those choices of eating right and exercising.
That’s a huge part of what we do. We help people get the motivation to face the day. And then, after they are able to just tackle the day, 9 times out of 10, it helps them lead to better food choices and then find the motivation to exceed or just take a long walk. As of right now, we are partnering with local gyms to offer our holistic energy drinks to their clients.
A drink that doesn’t have stimulants or fillers, gives energy and motivation without the jitters or the crash. Eventually, we will be partnering with local running events, school sporting events, etc. We are also expanding our brand and will be offering hydration products and collagen.
These will help with having glowing skin, less wrinkles, and fueled the body inside and out.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I’d say, it hasn’t been smooth, but it hasn’t necessarily been extremely rough either. The hardest part was working on our vintage camper to get it operational for making drinks.
We have been fortunate from the partnerships that have developed to the conversations of people coming to us daily from hearing about our struggles and them feeling comfortable talking to us about what they’re going through and offering customized solutions.
We feel like God has really laid this mission on our hearts and lives to make a difference and it’s been amazing how everything has unfolded beautifully so far.
