Community Highlights: Meet Joyce Kyles of Joyce Kyles Consulting

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joyce Kyles.

Hi Joyce, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey as a business owner, speaker, and advocate actually came out of a place of need in the beginning. Several years ago, my job with whom I was six months shy of being vested, lost its funding and I found myself without a job.

Around the same time, I met a gentleman who asked me a few questions about my skill sets, community organizations and/or businesses I may have been affiliated with, and activities I enjoyed most. He assessed that I could use all of what I shared with him to create a business for myself. As people began taking an interest in my business, I was often asked about my ‘why’ for starting it.

It was at that point I chose to share that in addition to losing my job, I had also ended an emotionally and financially abusive marriage. The transparency of that revelation morphed into a plethora of speaking engagements and a grassroots movement that would later become a nonprofit. I abandoned the business and went all-in with advocacy work, which I love.

However, I found myself missing the freedom and overall joy I felt being a business owner. I knew that I wanted to do more writing, coaching, and consulting-things that were different from my previous business venture. I rebranded & launched Joyce Kyles Consulting.

Today, I have established and maintained a way to do both.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s had some of the more common challenges that many face, especially when you’re new to business such as attracting clients, attracting funders, having the right processes in place, who to trust, fear of failure or making mistakes, etc.

In addition, I was doing what I could to raise my family while dealing with the intersectional barriers often associated with abuse.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Joyce Kyles Consulting?
I am a credentialed speaker and life and thriving skills coach and consultant. I offer personal and professional development services in the areas of non-profit advocacy, mental health and wellness, women’s entrepreneurship, DE&I, and domestic violence/forms of abuse.

I’m known for my ‘now what’, solution-centered approach. I focus on setting realistic goals, and tangible support that others don’t often think about in terms of needs for themselves and/or those whom they serve.

I’ve created a brand that shows people how to thrive with words and actions regardless of age, demographics, or circumstance. My voice is my power and my brand. I help others establish and maintain their own. I love working with individuals or groups locally, nationally, or internationally; online as well as in person.

What’s next?
I’m looking forward to increasing my speaking engagements, coaching more individuals, and traveling more now that the pandemic is beginning to ease a bit.

I’d love to have more intimate group events centered around business and social enterprise. I’m excited about the launch of my series of online courses set for late spring.
